What is a customer success?

A Customer Success role focuses on ensuring that customers achieve their desired outcomes while using a company's products or services. Professionals in this role work proactively to build strong relationships, provide product guidance, and address any issues that may arise. Their goal is to maximize customer satisfaction, retention, and loyalty by helping clients fully realize the value of what they've purchased. Customer Success teams often collaborate closely with sales, support, and product teams to deliver a seamless customer experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a customer success professional, and why are they important?

To excel in Customer Success, you need strong communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and a deep understanding of customer relationship management, often supported by a bachelor's degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce or HubSpot, as well as customer success tools such as Gainsight or Zendesk, is typically required. Exceptional empathy, active listening, and the ability to manage expectations are critical soft skills for building trust and resolving issues effectively. These competencies are vital for driving customer satisfaction, retention, and long-term business growth.

How does a customer success professional typically collaborate with other departments within a company?

Customer Success professionals work closely with teams such as Sales, Product, and Support to ensure customers achieve their desired outcomes. They often relay customer feedback to the Product team to inform improvements, coordinate with Support to address complex issues, and partner with Sales to identify upsell or renewal opportunities. This collaborative environment helps ensure a seamless customer experience and allows Customer Success to advocate effectively for client needs while supporting overall business goals.

What is the difference between Customer Success vs Customer Support?

Customer Success Specialist

AvaHR

Scottsdale, AZ • On-site

Full-time

Job description

AvaHR is hiring software built to help small and growing businesses find, attract, and hire great employees.

Our platform helps employers simplify their hiring process—from creating and distributing job postings to organizing candidates, communicating with applicants, and identifying the best people to hire.

But great software alone isn't enough. We want our customers to be successful at hiring.

That's where you come in.

The Role

We're looking for a Customer Success Specialist who will work directly with new AvaHR customers to help them get up and running, improve their hiring process, and get real value from the platform.

You'll be one of the first relationships a customer builds with AvaHR after becoming a client.

This isn't just a technical support position. Your job is to understand what the customer is trying to accomplish with hiring and help them build the right process inside AvaHR to accomplish it.

One customer might need help attracting more applicants. Another might be overwhelmed with candidates and need a better screening process. Another may need help setting up hiring workflows for multiple locations or managers.

You'll learn their business, understand their hiring challenges, and show them how to use AvaHR to hire more effectively.

What You'll Do
  • Welcome and onboard new AvaHR customers

  • Conduct onboarding and training calls with business owners, managers, and hiring teams

  • Learn each customer's hiring goals, open positions, challenges, and current hiring process

  • Help customers configure AvaHR around the way their business hires

  • Assist customers with creating effective job postings and getting jobs distributed to job boards

  • Teach customers how to organize, review, score, and communicate with candidates

  • Help customers use AvaHR's automation and AI tools to save time

  • Recommend hiring workflows and best practices based on each customer's needs

  • Proactively follow up with new customers to make sure they're successfully using the platform

  • Identify customers who may be struggling and help get them back on track

  • Answer product questions and troubleshoot basic issues

  • Communicate customer feedback and product opportunities to our internal team

  • Build strong relationships that lead to long-term customer retention

What Success Looks Like

Your goal isn't simply to complete an onboarding call.

A successful customer should:

  • Get their account properly configured

  • Post their first jobs quickly

  • Understand how to use the core features of AvaHR

  • Have a clear process for managing applicants

  • Get their hiring team actively using the platform

  • Feel confident that AvaHR is making hiring easier

  • Ultimately find and hire great employees

You'll be measured on customer activation, engagement, retention, and overall customer success.

Who We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you:

  • Love working directly with customers

  • Are naturally helpful, patient, and personable

  • Communicate clearly and confidently over Zoom, phone, email, and SMS

  • Enjoy teaching people how to use technology

  • Can understand a customer's problem and recommend a solution instead of simply answering questions

  • Are organized and comfortable managing follow-ups with multiple customers

  • Take ownership when a customer needs help

  • Are comfortable learning new software quickly

  • Enjoy working in a fast-moving small business or startup environment

  • Care about creating an exceptional customer experience

Experience in customer success, SaaS, recruiting, HR, staffing, account management, or small-business consulting is a plus, but we're more interested in finding someone who communicates well, learns quickly, and genuinely enjoys helping customers succeed.

What This Role Is NOT

This isn't a call center position where your job is to close tickets as quickly as possible.

We want someone who will ask:

“What are you trying to accomplish with hiring, and how can we help you get there?”

Sometimes that means teaching a feature. Sometimes it means improving a job posting. Sometimes it means helping a customer rethink their candidate workflow.

The goal is the outcome—not the support ticket.

Why Join AvaHR?

You'll join a growing SaaS company focused on helping small businesses compete for great employees.

You'll have the opportunity to work closely with our customers and directly influence how we improve our product, onboarding, and customer experience.

We're building a company where customer success isn't just about keeping accounts—it's about helping businesses make better hires and grow.

If you enjoy working with people, solving problems, and helping businesses succeed, we'd love to meet you.
