What does a customer success consultant do?

A Customer Success Consultant helps clients get the most value from a company's products or services. They work closely with customers to understand their goals, offer guidance, and ensure a smooth onboarding process. Their responsibilities often include troubleshooting issues, providing training, and proactively identifying ways to improve the customer experience. By building strong relationships, Customer Success Consultants help increase customer satisfaction and loyalty, ultimately reducing churn and driving business growth.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a customer success consultant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Customer Success Consultant, you need strong problem-solving abilities, product knowledge, and experience in client relationship management, often backed by a bachelor’s degree in business or a related field. Familiarity with CRM software such as Salesforce or HubSpot, as well as customer engagement tools, is typically required. Outstanding communication, empathy, and proactive listening are crucial soft skills that help build trust and foster lasting client relationships. These skills and qualifications are vital for ensuring customer satisfaction, reducing churn, and driving long-term business growth.

What are some common challenges customer success consultants face when working with diverse client portfolios?

Balancing proactive support with reactive problem-solving can be challenging, especially when clients have conflicting priorities or require tailored solutions. Effective communication, strong organizational skills, and the ability to quickly adapt strategies are essential to help each client achieve success. These challenges are also opportunities to build strong relationships and demonstrate value, which can lead to long-term customer loyalty and professional growth.

  • Partner with customers to design data and API solutions that support business objectives across analytics, AI, research, and risk management.
  • Guide customers through the development of API use cases, helping navigate internal approval processes and setting clear expectations throughout implementation.
  • Design and recommend API-driven solutions that integrate LexisNexis content into customer workflows and existing technology environments.
  • Provide technical guidance on data ingestion, enrichment, analytics, and AI/GenAI use cases to help customers maximize the value of their solutions.
  • Troubleshoot product behavior, data inconsistencies, and API issues, collaborating with Product and Engineering teams to resolve technical challenges.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on LexisNexis data products, APIs, licensing, and content availability, providing guidance to both customers and internal teams.
  • Support customer onboarding by assisting with API credentialing, sandbox environments, implementation planning, and ongoing technical enablement.

Requirements
  • Experience in Solution Consulting, Sales Engineering, Technical Consulting, or a similar customer-facing role supporting enterprise technology solutions.
  • Experience working with APIs, REST services, JSON, XML, and enterprise data integration technologies.
  • Familiarity with data pipelines, analytics, AI/GenAI, or machine learning workflows.
  • Ability to translate customer business challenges into practical, scalable technical solutions.
  • Experience supporting enterprise customers through implementation, troubleshooting, and ongoing solution optimization.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills with both technical and business audiences.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience collaborating across Sales, Product, Engineering, Legal, and other cross-functional teams.
