Resource Sharing Specialist- Sorting amp; Materials Retrieval/Main Library

POSITION SUMMARY: The Resource Sharing Specialist oversees the Library’s Resource Sharing service and coordinates with branch staff and other institutions to borrow and lend materials statewide.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
  • Processes requests from other library systems for Library materials.
  • Processes customer requests for materials not owned by the Library.
  • Helps prepare SearchOhio and OhioLink materials for shipping.
  • Reviews and maintains records as needed for incoming and outgoing SearchOhio and OhioLink requests.
  • Tracks overdue shared materials.
  • Prepares invoices for shared materials and prepares receipts for checks received.
  • Provides leadership and directs the work of Grade 1 – 4 staff when designated and assists with their training.
  • Serves as the person in charge in the absence of leadership as assigned.
  • Places work tickets for SearchOhio catalog and circulation issues.
  • Assists in developing and making recommendations for new Library procedures pertaining to SearchOhio and OhioLink.
  • Interprets and explains policies and procedures to customers and staff.
  • Resolves customer issues and complaints.
  • Compiles statistics. Runs and distributes various reports for collection maintenance.
  • Answers customers’ reference questions in person and on the telephone using materials in various formats.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Skill in customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and with coworkers in a wide variety of situations with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to use all technology applicable to the essential functions of the job and commonly used by the Library.
  • Lifting objects more than 50 pounds and carrying them short distances [50 feet or less] is required. Pushing carts of library materials up to 150 pounds is required.
  • Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Certifications or licensure: None.
  • Years of relevant experience: Two or more years is required.
  • Years of experience supervising: None.
  • Experience with resource sharing, especially SearchOhio and OhioLink functions, including searching the SearchOhio and OhioLink union catalogs, is required.
  • Familiarity with ILL management software is preferred.
  • Driver's license: A driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the Library’s insurance provider, or the employee must independently meet transportation requirements associated with the position.
