Description
The ACE Hardware Assistant Store Manager is responsible for assisting the Store Manager in the overall vision, direction, and coordination of the store. The person in this position will act as Manager when other Store Managers are absence. The Assistant Store Manager will assist in directing all business operations of the store by establishing and maintaining customer relations. In addition, the Assistant Store Manager will assist in the operation of the store by ensuring maximum sales and profitability through merchandise, inventory, expense control, human resource management, and managing operating costs and shrink.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee schedules to ensure that we are providing customers with the best shopping experience while obtaining expected budgets.
  • Establish high customer service standards for employees and assure that these standards are met.
  • Ensure that each customer receives outstanding service by providing a customer-friendly environment which includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, maintaining outstanding standards, solid product knowledge and all other components of customer service.
  • Assist customers on inquiries and complaints and ensure that concerns are resolved quickly.
  • Encourage, assist, and train employees to become a motivated sales force.
  • Promote a positive culture and ensure effective communication.
  • Assist the Hardware Manager by observing, evaluating, coaching, and developing employees for peak performance and productivity.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures. Encourage safe work procedures.
  • Review department trends and recommend and initiate changes for maximizing goals and objectives.
  • Assist with the implementation of needed changes to assure profitability and growth of the business. Share ideas on controlling shrink, expenses, and payroll.
  • Ensure all products and displays are merchandised effectively.
  • Coordinate sales promotions activities and prepare or direct workers preparing merchandise displays. Assist with comparison shopping and recommend appropriate price adjustments.
  • Purchase merchandise and help oversee to the appropriate merchandise stock levels, signing, and assortment in all departments.
  • Responsible for assisting in maximizing store sales and profitability while working ethically and modeling the Medford Cooperative's core values.
  • Assist in developing and implementing plans to maximize sales and meet or exceed goals and objectives.
  • Achieve budgeted financial goals and ensure profitability through the tracking of costs/sales and the execution of marketing plans, product promotions, product displays and cost control techniques.
  • Communicate with Human Resources in regards to department conditions, employee relations, department hiring needs, employee accidents/injuries and other concerns as needed.
  • Serve customers throughout the store while modeling a service-oriented culture and providing "best in class" customer service, which includes greeting, engaging, and thanking every guest for their business.
  • Provide consistent, timely and friendly customer service when answering questions, making suggestions and resolving complaints.
  • Monitor inventory controls for every department and sustain a high level of product knowledge.
  • Walk store regularly to ensure an organized and overall clean appearance at all times.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment by adhering to safety/sanitation regulations and procedures.
  • Must know and perform other duties when needed, included but not limited to: cashiering, stocking, rotating/facing product, cleaning duties, etc.
  • Report to work at the assigned/scheduled time and may be required to fill in as needed in other customer facing roles.
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience Required:
  • Previous supervisory or management experience is a plus.
  • Must have a comprehensive knowledge of retail hardware business, be able to use this knowledge to formulate goals and objectives and be capable of motivating his/her self and others to work as a team and accomplish these goals and objectives.
  • Must be patient and helpful to exceed the customer's expectations.
  • Must possess basic computer skills to operate scanners, registers, calculators, etc.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver's license and have a clean driving record.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of ten (20) pounds frequently and up to fifty (50) pounds occasionally.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Position requires this candidate to work 40 hour per week in this full-time position.
  • Schedule includes weekends and holidays, flexibility is essential.
  • Smoke-free environment.
  • This position is primarily indoors but at times may be exposed to heat/cool outdoor temperatures.
  • Perform indoor/outdoor housekeeping and maintenance duties to include, but not limited to shoveling snow, sweeping/mopping, emptying trash and general cleaning of restrooms/shower and lounge areas (where applicable).
