ROLE OVERVIEW

The Outside Sales Associate grows sales and increases company profitability by cultivating current customers and recruiting new ones. This role promotes products, provides technical support, and conducts training for new and repeat customers within an assigned territory.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales & Customer Development

  • Prepare and conduct sales presentations to new and existing customers; determine requirements and recommend specific products
  • Prepare and present quotations; incorporate the selling process into proposal writing and pricing models
  • Assist customers in creating marketing plans and programs to grow their business
  • Visit job sites as needed to measure or provide client services
  • Integrate industry partners into sales opportunities and articulate the organization's value proposition

Market & Product Knowledge

  • Demonstrate comprehensive product and industry knowledge; articulate competitive advantages
  • Gather competitive and market information regularly; identify trends in customer satisfaction
  • Understand competitor product offerings, target audiences, and strategies; provide market-specific product needs and price points
  • Expand product knowledge across primary and adjacent sales industries; demonstrate appropriate application of all product offerings

Customer Relationship Management

  • Maintain and improve customer relationships; understand customer business models, metrics, and decision-making structures
  • Recognize different customer types within the supply chain and adapt approach for optimal results
  • Manage time and schedules to best serve customers; plan upcoming meetings with a defined time management process
  • Use company-provided systems for planning, history collection, and activity management

Teamwork & Standards

  • Build and maintain team relationships across branch, manager, and corporate network for improved effectiveness

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED required; minimum 2 years in a similar position (3 years preferred)
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
  • Product/applications and wholesale distribution experience preferred
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to adapt to different customer types
  • Understanding of budgets and budget tracking
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
