We're seeking an experienced Data Manager to lead our Business Intelligence, Reporting, Analytics, and Data Governance initiatives. This role will oversee the organization's data strategy, manage the Business Intelligence team, and ensure data is transformed into meaningful insights that support strategic decision-making across the business.

Position Summary


The Data Manager is responsible for leading GSM Outdoors' Business Intelligence and Data Analytics functions while ensuring the integrity, consistency, and accessibility of enterprise data. This role partners closely with leaders across Sales, Marketing, Finance, Operations, Product Development, IT, Customer Service, and Executive Leadership to deliver actionable insights that improve business performance and support company growth.


The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise with business acumen and leadership skills, helping transform complex data into strategic recommendations that drive operational excellence and innovation.

What You'll Do

Lead the Business Intelligence Team

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics team.
  • Establish team priorities, objectives, and performance expectations.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, continuous improvement, and innovation.
  • Manage project priorities, resource allocation, and team workloads across multiple initiatives.
  • Coach team members while promoting professional development and technical excellence.

Drive Business Intelligence & Reporting

  • Own the development, maintenance, and continuous improvement of enterprise dashboards, scorecards, and reports.
  • Deliver accurate, timely, and actionable reporting across all business functions.
  • Standardize business metrics, reporting methodologies, and KPI definitions across the organization.
  • Design executive dashboards that provide visibility into operational and financial performance.
  • Partner with business leaders to understand reporting requirements and identify meaningful business insights.

Lead Data Governance & Quality

  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, accuracy, and integrity across all business systems.
  • Establish processes for data validation, cleansing, monitoring, and issue resolution.
  • Define data ownership and stewardship responsibilities across departments.
  • Promote data governance standards that support regulatory compliance and business objectives.

Deliver Data Analytics & Business Insights

  • Analyze business performance to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities.
  • Develop actionable recommendations that improve operational efficiency and business performance.
  • Support executive decision-making through forecasting, budgeting, sales analytics, inventory planning, customer insights, and operational reporting.
  • Build KPI frameworks that align with strategic business goals.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis to support business initiatives, product launches, and executive requests.

Support Data Integration & Technology

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product Management, DevOps, Operations, and IT teams to support enterprise data architecture initiatives.
  • Oversee data integration across ERP, CRM, eCommerce, Customer Support, Marketing Automation, and Product platforms.
  • Support enterprise data warehouse and cloud analytics environments.
  • Identify opportunities to automate data collection, reporting, and business intelligence processes.
  • Recommend technology solutions that improve scalability, efficiency, and data accessibility.

Enable AI & Advanced Analytics

  • Support Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning initiatives through strong data governance and data preparation practices.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering teams to provide clean, reliable datasets for AI-powered products and business initiatives.
  • Help establish best practices for data management that support predictive analytics and emerging technologies.
  • Stay current on advancements in business intelligence, analytics, AI, and data technologies to identify future opportunities for GSM Outdoors.
Requirements:

What You'll Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Business, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, Data Management, or a related discipline.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing Business Intelligence, Data Analytics, or Data Management teams.
  • Advanced SQL and database management skills.
  • Experience with Business Intelligence platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, or similar visualization tools.
  • Strong understanding of:
    • Data warehousing
    • ETL processes
    • Data modeling
    • Reporting frameworks
    • KPI development
  • Experience developing executive dashboards and enterprise reporting solutions.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities with the ability to translate technical concepts into business insights.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms such as AWS, Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Databricks, or similar technologies.
  • Experience integrating data across ERP, CRM, Customer Support, Product Management, Marketing Automation, and eCommerce platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), predictive analytics, and data science concepts.
  • Experience supporting consumer products, manufacturing, retail, distribution, or outdoor industry organizations.
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and cross-functional product teams.
