Associate Custodian, Evening
City: West Lafayette
Job Description:
What You'll be Doing:
Assist in maintaining, or may maintain, a clean, safe, and healthy environment in University facilities. Provide custodial services for university classrooms, offices, research labs, and public spaces. In addition, one or more of the following may be an essential function of this position: (a) drive a university owned vehicle during work shift, (b) work a non-traditional schedule, see posted shift schedule, (c) learn and perform specialized cleaning procedures. May provide building access by locking and unlocking areas as scheduled by the department. May develop relationships with building occupants and respond to requests.
This position represents a dual-level posting and will be filled as an Associate Custodian (S1) or Custodian (S2). The hiring manager will determine the job level based on the skills, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate.
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm
Starting Pay: $15.00 plus $0.70 shift differential for a total of $15.70

What We're Looking For:
Education and Experience (S1)
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
  • No formal education or experience required

Skills Needed:
  • Must complete onboarding training, or be enrolled in program within 90 days of hire
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understand English to effectively communicate and understand others
  • Basic math skills and good work organization
  • Ability to learn and use powered and non-powered floor care equipment
  • Must be able to work well with others and work in a team environment
  • Learn and follow safety procedures, including wearing personal protective equipment as required
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs. frequently, and up to 60 lbs. occasionally
  • Work outdoors 10% of the time in temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees

Education and Experience (S2)
Qualified Candidates Will Need:
  • Six months of custodial experience
  • 24 months of total work experience

Skills Needed:
  • Must complete onboarding training, or be enrolled in program, within 90 days of hire
  • Must be able to read, speak, and understand English to effectively communicate and understand others
  • Basic math skills and good organization required
  • Ability to learn and use powered and non-powered floor care equipment
  • Must be able to work well with others and work in a team environment
  • Learn and follow safety procedures; including the wearing personal protective equipment as required
  • Ability to lift and carry 25 to 50 lbs frequently, and up to 60 lbs occasionally required
