A Duneland School Corporation substitute custodian is required to clean and sanitize all corporation facilities in a safe and lawful manner. This position has a highly responsible role in providing custodial services and dealing with students and staff on a regular basis. Substitute custodians interact with individuals both inside and outside the corporation and therefore, must have the ability to present a professional and organized image at all times. Substitute custodians may be required to work in other Duneland School Corporation facilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
  1. Respond to requests for information and services in a prompt, efficient and friendly manner
  2. Provide exceptional service to students, teachers, co-workers, other staff members, school visitors and members of the community
  3. Observe safety and security procedures
  4. Operate, maintain and sanitize equipment in compliance with local, state, federal and OSHA standards
  5. Shampoo carpets and provide gym floor maintenance
  6. Locker repair
  7. Provide minor building maintenance and repair
  8. Assist with snow removal
  9. Participate in group and independent training
  10. Set-up, monitor and provide service for special events arranged with the Duneland School Corporation
  11. Accept delegated authority
  12. Promote a positive and productive work environment
  13. Required to work at other Duneland School Corporation facilities as needed
  14. Perform other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work Environment: Typically work in a controlled temperature environment with occasional exposure to inclement weather conditions depending upon assignments.
Equipment: Required to maintain a working knowledge of all Custodial Services equipment and have a basic knowledge of operating computers, printers, telephone systems, fax machines and copiers.
Hours: A Custodian is expected to work eight (8) hours per day with a thirty (30) minute lunch period. Summer hours may be adjusted as per the Superintendent. aubstitute custodians may be scheduled and are expected to work their assigned schedule which may include weekends or holidays.
Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by all Duneland School Corporation custodians to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, twist, crouch, crawl; and taste or smell. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
