DEPARTMENT: New York City District Council of Carpenters Training Center
REPORT TO: Assistant Director of Training
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
Job Description: We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Storefront & Curtain Wall Instructor to train and mentor journeymen in the proper installation, assembly, and understanding of commercial storefront and curtain wall systems. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience, the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, and a passion for teaching and developing skilled tradespeople.
Job Responsibilities:
• Instruct and train journeymen in storefront and curtain wall systems.
• Teach proper installation techniques, sequencing, and best practices
• Interpret and explain blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications
• Demonstrate layout, fabrication, and assembly of storefront systems
• Ensure all training follows safety standards and industry guidelines
• Evaluate trainee progress and provide constructive feedback
• Assist in developing training materials and lesson plans
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
• Must be a member in Good Standing with The New York City District Council of Carpenters.
• Proven experience with commercial storefront and curtain wall systems
• Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings
• Solid understanding of system components, glazing methods, and installation procedures
• Prior teaching, training, or supervisory experience preferred
• Strong communication and leadership skills
• Patience and ability to work with varying skill levels
• OSHA certification or equivalent safety training is a plus
Skills & Abilities:
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Ability to analyze reports and data relevant to instructional outcomes.
• Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing tasks through to completion.
• Able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
