About this opportunity:

Cenovus is seeking a Staff Project Engineer to join our Lima refinery. This role is responsible for the safe and effective delivery of projects within Downstream Site Projects Execution, primarily at Lima Refinery while also supporting other sites, as assigned. The role leads assigned projects teams consisting of members across Cenovus departments and contractors to drive strong Project Management, stakeholder engagement, and best practices across scope development, engineering, construction, commissioning, and controls. The role delivers projects in conformance with Health, Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory expectations, with strong outcomes in quality, reliability, and operational performance, and within approved schedules and budgets, while driving to competitive benchmarks.

What you'll do:

  • The role acts as Project Manager for a portfolio of diverse and complex refinery projects.

  • Projects are typically located at Lima Refinery but may also be at other sites, as assigned.

  • Forms and leads a project team for all assigned projects and coaches, mentors, and drives the team along with high stakeholder engagement across all levels of the organization to successfully deliver each project.

  • Ensures rigorous and efficient performance and delivery of project stages and gate approvals, and technical assurance by appropriate internal or external representatives.

  • Promotes project progress with strong competitive benchmarking and best practices in areas of scope development, engineering, construction, commissioning, and controls.

  • Ensures high-quality engineering, fabrication, and construction with successful project startups and lifecycle operations.

  • Acts as safety leader with a focus on HSER performance in all stages of projects.

Who you are:

  • Legally authorized to work in the US.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering.

  • 12+ years of relevant experience in refinery or similar oil/petrochemical industry, including project engineering, management and/or construction, turnaround, operational, and technical leadership.

  • Experience successfully executing a diverse range of projects, programs, and/or site activities.

  • Experience managing engineering and/or construction activities with working knowledge of engineering deliverables and construction practices relevant to refining.

  • Understanding of project best practices, ability to apply informal leadership and influence, strong stakeholder management skills, and proven experience to drive through challenges and ambiguous situations toward successful outcomes while managing a broad, fast-paced workload.
