DEPARTMENT: New York City District Council of Carpenters Training Center
REPORT TO: Assistant Director of Training
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt
Job Description: We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Storefront & Curtain Wall Instructor to train and mentor journeymen in the proper installation, assembly, and understanding of commercial storefront and curtain wall systems. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience, the ability to read and interpret construction drawings, and a passion for teaching and developing skilled tradespeople.
Job Responsibilities:
โ€ข Instruct and train journeymen in storefront and curtain wall systems.
โ€ข Teach proper installation techniques, sequencing, and best practices
โ€ข Interpret and explain blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications
โ€ข Demonstrate layout, fabrication, and assembly of storefront systems
โ€ข Ensure all training follows safety standards and industry guidelines
โ€ข Evaluate trainee progress and provide constructive feedback
โ€ข Assist in developing training materials and lesson plans
Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:
โ€ข Must be a member in Good Standing with The New York City District Council of Carpenters.
โ€ข Proven experience with commercial storefront and curtain wall systems
โ€ข Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints and shop drawings
โ€ข Solid understanding of system components, glazing methods, and installation procedures
โ€ข Prior teaching, training, or supervisory experience preferred
โ€ข Strong communication and leadership skills
โ€ข Patience and ability to work with varying skill levels
โ€ข OSHA certification or equivalent safety training is a plus
Skills & Abilities:
โ€ข Strong verbal and written communication skills.
โ€ข Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
โ€ข Ability to analyze reports and data relevant to instructional outcomes.
โ€ข Detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing tasks through to completion.
โ€ข Able to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
