What is an aluminum glass?

An Aluminum Glass job involves working with aluminum and glass materials to fabricate, install, and repair structures like windows, doors, partitions, and facades. Professionals in this field cut, shape, and assemble aluminum frames, fit glass panels, and ensure proper sealing for durability and insulation. They often work in construction, renovation, and interior design projects for residential, commercial, and industrial buildings. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of safety standards are essential for this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the aluminum glass position?

To excel as an Aluminum Glass Technician, you need hands-on experience with fabrication, installation, and repair of aluminum-framed glass structures, often supported by a high school diploma or technical training. Familiarity with hand and power tools, blueprint reading, and safety certifications like OSHA 10 are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are valuable soft skills in this trade. These competencies ensure precise work, workplace safety, and smooth collaboration with contractors and clients on construction or renovation projects.

What are some common challenges faced by aluminum glass technicians on the job?

Aluminum Glass Technicians often encounter challenges such as working in varying weather conditions, lifting and handling large glass panels safely, and ensuring precise alignment during installation. Adapting to different job sites and coordinating with construction teams can also present complexities, as timelines and site conditions may change frequently. However, these challenges help technicians build valuable problem-solving skills and provide opportunities to work on a wide range of interesting projects. Collaboration, attention to safety protocols, and clear communication are key to overcoming these obstacles and delivering high-quality results.

Architectural Aluminum & Glass Estimator

Quality Glass and Mirror Service

Omaha, NE • On-site

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, PTO

Posted 13 days ago

Job description

Quality Glass and Mirror Service is a high-growth, market leader in glass fabrication and aluminum systems, serving a six-state territory from our headquarters in Omaha, Nebraska. We're hiring an Architectural Aluminum and Glass Estimator to own the full estimating process from first drawing to final order — not just producing a number, but seeing it through.

What you'll actually do, day to day:

  • Read architectural drawings and specifications to determine storefront system type, framing dimensions, glass makeup, and hardware requirements
  • Build accurate, detailed takeoffs and quotes using industry takeoff software
  • Source and confirm pricing with aluminum system suppliers, and negotiate where needed
  • Follow up proactively with customers throughout the bid process — this is a relationship-driven role, not a submit-and-wait one
  • Once a quote is won, place and track material purchase orders and see the project through to fulfillment
  • Maintain organized, accurate project files, quote worksheets, and vendor records

This is an individual contributor role reporting directly to senior leadership — you'll own your own pipeline of quotes, not manage a team. We're looking for someone who wants to do this work hands-on and do it well, with the opportunity to grow as we do.

As part of our interview process, candidates will complete a short sample takeoff exercise so we can see your approach firsthand.

Requirements

  • 1–3+ years of commercial estimating experience specifically in architectural glass and/or aluminum systems (drapery, soft goods, or general construction estimating alone will not meet this requirement)
  • Hands-on, working proficiency with takeoff/estimating software — Bluebeam, Glazier Studio, WinBidPro, or equivalent — plus strong Excel skills
  • Direct experience with architectural aluminum systems (Tubelite, Kawneer, Oldcastle, or similar) and interior glass hardware (Assa Abloy, CRL, Dormakaba, or similar)
  • Comfortable owning a project end-to-end, including placing and tracking material orders — not just producing quotes
  • Excellent follow-up habits, organization, and attention to detail — our estimates need to hold up from quote to final invoice
  • Strong, proactive communication with customers, vendors, and internal team members
  • This is a full-time, W-2 position — we're building a long-term team, not contracting out individual deliverables
  • Preference given to candidates based in the Omaha, Iowa, or Kansas City region; strong remote candidates elsewhere will still be considered

Benefits

  • Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
  • Retirement Plan (401k, IRA), with Company Match Up to 4%
  • Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
  • Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
  • Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
  • Short Term & Long Term Disability
  • Training & Development
  • Work From Home
