Job description

1 Resource Group is seeking an experienced and motivated Power Generator Technician to join our client's growing team in Gonzales, LA. In this role, you will be responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, repairing, and troubleshooting a wide variety of power generation equipment. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills and have experience working with diesel engines, generators, and industrial equipment.
This is a hands-on position that offers the opportunity to work with advanced power generation systems while supporting critical operations across multiple industries. If you enjoy solving complex technical problems and working in a fast-paced environment, we encourage you to apply.
The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to provide exceptional customer service while supporting critical backup and prime power systems. Technicians will work both in the shop and in the field, servicing customer equipment to ensure maximum reliability and uptime.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
  • Perform inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel and natural gas generators.
  • Diagnose electrical, mechanical, fuel, cooling, and control system failures.
  • Service and repair generators from manufacturers such as Taylor Power Systems, Cummins, Caterpillar, Kohler, Generac, and MTU.
  • Perform load bank testing, startup commissioning, and preventive maintenance services.
  • Troubleshoot Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), switchgear, and generator control systems.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Complete service reports, work orders, and maintenance documentation accurately.
  • Respond to emergency service calls and support customer power restoration efforts.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety standards.
  • Maintain service vehicle inventory, tools, and equipment.

Qualifications
  • 3+ years of generator technician, diesel mechanic, or power generation experience.
  • Strong understanding of diesel engines, AC/DC electrical systems, and generator controls.
  • Experience troubleshooting ATS systems and generator controllers.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Taylor Power Systems equipment.
  • Factory certifications from Cummins, Caterpillar, Generac, Kohler, or similar manufacturers.
  • CDL license or ability to obtain one.
  • Experience with paralleling switchgear and critical power systems.
