Innovation Manager 

BWXT Nuclear Energy Canada (NEC) is seeking an Innovation Manager  for our Fuel and Fuel Handling team in Peterborough, Ontario. This Senior Level position as the Innovation Manager will have overall ownership and accountability of the New Product Innovations (NPI) portfolio, evolution of existing and new ideas, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to progress these initiatives. This role will also provide technical leadership for the design, development, and delivery of safety and non-safety related systems and equipment used for the remote control of fuel handling systems, specialized tooling and process plant systems in the nuclear industry. Our Role:

Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the role will have ultimate responsibility of the NPI portfolio, collaborating with Engineering Functional Managers and Site Representatives to pursue new innovative products. This role also includes setting the technical direction for the overall program and acting as the main technical interface point to both internal and external customers. No direct reports will be assigned, but rather responsible for leading project-like cross-functional teams in the development of new products/ideas. This position requires frequent interaction with external customers, subcontractors, and cross functional internal teams. .

Your Day to Day:

  • Identify and develop new product ideas through internal idea generation or external customer demand. 
  • Provide overall leadership and direction with strategic R&D work. 
  • Work directly with the broader business on NPI alignment with strategic opportunities and alignment to the strategic plan. 
  • Own the NPI portfolio of ideas and opportunities and progress in line with BWXT governance and business case needs. 
  • Work and engage with the BWXT innovation council as required. 
  • Define, manage and lead interfaces and scope between discipline specific design areas (mechanical, I&C and software). 
  • Prepare and/or verify project level deliverables including but not limited to evaluations, reports, and assessments. 
  • Continually drive best in class quality through active design engagement and motivation of staff. Work with technical staff on decision making with proper influencing and technical guidance. 
  • Present and report on status, issues/solutions, improvements, escalate resources needs as required. 
  • Provide overall Project Technical Leadership (PTL) duties for projects as required. 
  • Contribute to and lead process change through process enhancement, and technology introduction to achieve world-class product development and product deployment. 
  • Build customer relationships and ensure market alignment. 
  • Take an active role and responsibility in driving proposal development and review including scope review and estimate preparation as well as technical and product presentations to the customer. May be assigned Proposal Estimate Lead (PEL) roles as required. 

Qualifications:

  • B.A.Sc. in Engineering. 
  • Holds a current PEO license (Preffered)
  • Min 10 to 15 years’ experience in design engineering in Nuclear, Aerospace, Transportation, or other highly regulated and process-based design. 
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a specific engineering focus area and designated as a subject matter expert. 
  • Innovative thinker with a growth focus to pursue new and exciting opportunities. 
  • Experience with developing new products and research and development initiatives. 
  • Demonstrated ability in helping lead engineering projects and a key design team member for complex projects over their complete EPC life cycles. 
  • Experience with a broad range of interdisciplinary activities: systems design, requirements development, interface design and testing. 
  • Exposure to a broad range of interdisciplinary departments: mechanical, I&C, software design and manufacturing. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, understandable by a diverse audience. 
  • Creative problem-solving skills, outstanding analytical abilities, demonstrated leadership skills, strong technical experience and the ability to work in a team. 
  • Some periodic travel required to customer sites to present innovative and strategic opportunities.

The base salary range for this position in Ontario at the start of employment is expected to be between $116,000 and $162,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits.
