SUMMARY OF POSITION

We are hiring a skilled Culinary Shift Supervisor to join our growing Little Saint team! Under the supervision of the Culinary Operations Manager, Restaurant Chef, and Sous Chefs, the Culinary Shift Supervisor focuses on the supervision of line cooks, daily culinary preparation and cooking for service. The Culinary Shift Supervisor oversees and ensures quality standards for all assigned areas. The position will often be in contact with guests and the Culinary Shift Supervisor is expected to provide sincere hospitality and create a warm environment for guests.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

Shift Leadership & Execution

  • Lead the kitchen service team during assigned shifts
  • Ensure service runs on time and to highest standard
  • Assign stations and daily prep/cleaning responsibilities for line team
  • Adjust responsibilities and staffing levels based on daily needs
  • Ensure team members clock in and out on time including for mandatory breaks
  • Act as the primary point of contact between BOH and FOH during service

Food Quality & Consistency

  • Ensure all dishes meet recipe, plating, and flavor standards
  • Taste and season food as needed during service
  • Verify proper holding, reheating, and finishing procedures
  • Address quality issues immediately and coach staff in the moment

Prep & Production Communication

  • Communicate prep needs to the prep team in a timely and effective manner
  • Ensure prep items on the line and in walk-in are labeled, dated, and stored correctly
  • Monitor par levels and anticipate needs for upcoming services
  • Deciding and communicating suitable substitutes for 86’d products

Food Safety & Sanitation

  • Enforce all food safety and sanitation standards
  • Regularly monitor time and temperature controls
  • Ensure proper cleaning and closing procedures utilizing check lists
  • Correct unsafe or unsanitary practices immediately

Inventory Awareness & Waste Control

  • Monitor ingredient usage and waste during the shift
  • Report shortages, spoilage, or prep variances to culinary management
  • Ensure accurate portioning and storage
  • Communicate inventory/ ordering needs to culinary management

Team Support & Coaching

  • Train and support cooks on stations and prep
  • Model professionalism and calm under pressure
  • Address minor performance or conduct issues during the shift
  • Escalate serious issues to management as needed

Communication & Documentation

  • Communicate service notes, issues, and shortages to the next shift
  • Report equipment issues or maintenance needs
  • Document incidents according to company policy

Opening and Closing Responsibilities:

Opening:

  • Ensure all team members arrive on time in uniform and are clocked in
  • Verify prep completion and station readiness

Closing:

  • Verify cleaning and breakdown
  • Ensure food is stored correctly
  • Confirm closing checklists are completed
  • Ensure team members are clocked out on time

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 2-3+ years of cooking experience in a fine dining culinary or kitchen setting.
  • Commitment to service quality, excellence, and sincere hospitality.
  • Self-motivated and highly organized, with the ability to self-manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a timely manner.
  • Proven communication skills.
  • Ability to read and speak English fluently.
  • Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time, and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, reach with hands and arms.
  • Flexibility with a schedule that includes evenings, holidays and extended hours
  • Previous kitchen management experience a plus
