Large Horizontal Machinist/Machine Operator

CTR Group is seeking several Horizontal Machinists in Mobile, AL. Immediate openings and urgently hiring!

Job Description

Set up and operate large horizontal mills, horizontal machining centers, or horizontal boring mills to machine steel, alloy, and fabricated components. Interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and work instructions to determine machining requirements and sequence of operations. Perform complex setups including fixturing, leveling, aligning, and securing large or irregular parts.

Select appropriate tooling, speeds, and feeds based on material and machining operations. Monitor machining processes and make adjustments to maintain dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Inspect parts using micrometers, calipers, indicators, bore gauges, and other precision measurement tools. Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to resolve machining challenges and support production flow. Perform routine machine maintenance and ensure safe operation of equipment, including overhead cranes and material-handling tools. Maintain a clean, organized work area and follow all safety procedures.

Qualifications: 3+ years of experience operating horizontal milling equipment (HMCs, HBMs, or large manual horizontals). Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, and precision measurement. Ability to set up and run large or heavy components with minimal supervision. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and GD&T. Experience with overhead cranes, rigging, or heavy material handling. Solid mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. CNC experience (Fanuc, Haas, Siemens, etc.) is a plus but not required depending on machine type.
