CTL Engineering is hiring Inspectors | Construction Services for WVDOH highway projects!

CTL Engineering (www.ctleng.com) is an award winning, full service consulting engineering firm with (15) locations across OH, IN, WV, KY, NC, SC, and VA with a rich history over our (99) years in business. We provide civil/site design and land surveying, environmental, geotechnical, construction administration & inspection, accident reconstruction, roofing/building envelope, A/V system design, troubleshooting & installation, transportation design (bridge/roadway), and specialized testing services to the construction industry.

We are looking for Inspectors | Construction Services (WVTRET) who will play a key role in all aspects of construction administration, inspection and testing services for state (WVDOH), county, and local Clients. Youโ€™ll be involved in the testing and inspection aspects of wide range of projects, including those in the roadway/bridge (primarily), but may also include some aviation/airport, commercial, municipal utility/infrastructure sectors, and vertical (building) construction projects. Youโ€™ll leverage your expertise in construction inspection and creative problem-solving skills while collaborating closely with institutions/municipal agencies.

  • This position will use experience while learning new skills to assist clients through our cross-functional team dynamic and company culture.

Highlights:

  • This position works independently on broad projects under direction of a Dept. Manager while managing a team of direct reports or projects.
  • Projects are typically in the Berkeley Springs, WV region (located @36 miles west of Hagerstown). Frequent travel within this region is expected.
  • A stipend for personal vehicle use or a company take-home vehicle will be provided, based on the assignment.
  • WVDOT/WVDOH large project experience is a strong plus.
  • Transportation Engineering Technician (WVTRET) certification is a strong plus.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
  • Read project drawings, specifications, blueprints, and work on a variety of construction projects.
  • Perform construction administration and inspection services for state, county and local roadway and bridge projects and municipal utility or infrastructure projects.
  • Monitor and enforce quality standards and specifications.
  • Inspect construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with state specifications, plans and/or proposals on roadway and bridge projects.
  • Verify plan quantities and calculations are within bid plans.
  • Prepare and maintain project records and reports in a timely manner.
  • Notify the Contractor or the Project Engineer with status updates or about non-conforming work.
  • Conduct quality control testing at project sites, including concrete, soils, masonry, asphalt, aggregate and reinforcing steel.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Project Engineer or Project Manager.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of engineering, construction, testing and inspection principles.
  • Experience with materials and lab testing.
  • Experience with quality control testing and compliance specifications.
  • Experience with standard testing and observation methods.
  • Ability to read blueprints and construction documents.
  • Understanding of construction or engineering services.
  • Experience in performing quality control initiatives and performance testing.
  • Skill in lab reporting, writing reports and maintaining records.
  • Ability to manage projects with little/no supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability of monitoring construction and demolition environments.
  • Must be able to interact well with others.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in external environment conditions during difficult weather.
  • Ability to provide status updates independently.
  • Be quality-minded and client-focused.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • All levels of experience are needed:
    • 2+ years of related experience is a plus.
    • New grads (Technical Schools/Associates degrees) are encouraged to apply.
  • Construction inspection experience on WVDOT funded projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with highway construction specifications and previous field experience is a plus.
  • Previous experience working for a testing company is a plus.
  • Experience with concrete, asphalt, earthwork, and utility construction engineering services and inspection/testing is a plus.
  • Experience with field and laboratory testing of soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregate, masonry, structural steel and fireproofing, etc. is a plus.
  • Preferred certifications: ACI Grade I, DOT Asphalt Tech, NICET Level II Soils, ICC Special inspections.
  • Must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record.
