Job Title: Culinary Arts Instructor - Career and Technical Education (CTE) Reports To: Building Principal/CTE Director Classification: Professional Wage/Hour Status: Exempt Days: 188 Salary: See Compensation Plan for New Hire Guide for Teachers Contract: Probationary/Term Date Revised: 3/1/2024 Primary Purpose: Work together with building principal and peer program teachers to implement, enhance, and expand instructional duties and activities relating to the Culinary Arts program. Provide students with real-world experiences through classroom instruction, hands-on application, and work based learning opportunities. Qualifications/Skills:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's or Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts or closely related area.
- Valid Texas CTE Trade and Industry Teaching Certificate or Family and Consumer Science with Culinary Arts approval.
- Current licensure by a state or nationally recognized accrediting agency or a passing score on the National Occupational Competency Testing Institute (NOCTI).
- Certification must meet requirements for becoming and remaining qualified for this position in a manner required by Federal and/or State law.

Special Knowledge/Skills:Â

Experience:
- Two (2) years of full-time wage earning experience within the past ten years in an approved occupation for Culinary Arts.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Strategies:
- Continue development and refinement of an innovative, industry-standard program that meets the need for continued post-secondary education and priority occupations in Culinary Arts.
- Adhere to the district's philosophy of instruction. Develop and personalize lessons that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show digital evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons and evaluations that support differences in student learning styles. Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations.
- Conduct effective classroom and lab instruction while maintaining discipline in a positive, safe learning environment.
- Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to provide accommodations as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Integrate academic core curriculum into meaningful, relevant curriculum; conduct effective classroom and lab instruction while maintaining discipline; create and maintain a positive, safe learning environment.
- Plan, develop and deliver instruction physically and digitally including extensive use of approved learning management systems and other personalized learning vehicles.
- Work with other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district requirements.
- Use technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
Student Growth and Development:
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
- Develop outlets for internships for students.
- Sponsor an approved student leadership organization and/or promote student participation in competitive events.
- Maintain a business and industry partner network specializing in Culinary Arts to keep curriculum relevant, fresh and to stay current with job placement demands.
Classroom Management and Organization:
- Create classroom environments conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students. Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assist in the selection of software, equipment and instructional materials.
- Distribute workload of ordering, receiving, hot shots for goods and other duties equitably among peers.
CTE Program Support:
- Contribute to continued development of an up-to-date, relevant Culinary Arts program and provide vision for future needs.
- Collaborate with principals, teachers, higher education and industry advisors to provide work-based experiences for students.
- Maintain industry partnerships and post-secondary relations that promote course articulation, dual credit, work-based learning opportunities, and advising the Culinary Arts program and curriculum relevancy.
Communication:
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, community members and advisory boards.
- Work with counselors, staff, parents and students to develop recruitment plans and monitor enrollment.
- Recruit for the program by providing communication about activities and events that will assist recruiting potential students from other schools for digital and print distribution.
- Actively promote the successes of your students through school and district websites, news media resources, and social media.
Professional Growth and Development:
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills. Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain and file all physical and digital reports, records and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Maintain current technical skills in current and future software platforms and other systems needed for culinary and restaurant careers.
Other:
- Plan and organize program budget expenses and maintain accurate financial records of fundraising and expenses of student activity accounts.
