Summary of Position
This position performs routine security checks and patrolling of all CTC property including on -campus housing, dormitories, grounds, vehicles and buildings and ensures the safety and welfare of the campus community before, during and after normal business hours. Reports suspicious activity directly to the CTC police officer on duty and assists officers as needed and requested. This position does not require the power of arrest. May have to work rotating shifts, weekends, nights and holidays.
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED is required. Some College preferred.
Six months security officer/guard experience is required. Prior Military experience accepted in exchange for security experience.
Knowledge Skills and Ability
  • Basic knowledge of closed circuit TV systems operations including recording and monitoring. Basic knowledge of PC, operating systems, and word processing.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills including use of grammar, punctuation, spelling and sentence structure.
  • The ability to complete written incident reports or campus accident reports for Public or Risk management.
  • Must be knowledgeable of campus rules and regulations including CTCD safety policies, student code of conducts and housing rules and regulations.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions.
  • Must have the skill to operate security type tools and equipment pertinent to the positions including first aid and safety equipment.
  • Must have a valid drivers license and eligible for CTC auto insurance.
  • Must have a valid Texas Drivers License and qualify for coverage under the CTCD Fleet Vehicle insurance plan.

Essential Functions
  • Monitors Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) systems where installed to detect crime or criminal activity. Patrols campuses streets, parks, facilities, buildings and residential areas to deter crime and preserve the peach.
  • Performs security checks, written or visual, on all campus buildings grounds and residential facilities.
  • Assists the Campuses Police on disturbance calls and any breach of the peace in residential facilities and/or other locations on campus.
  • Complete incident reports or accident reports for Campus Police or Risk Management as needed or directed.
  • Seek out and question witnesses for violations of dorm rules and regulations by student residents.
  • Assists Campus Police with campus crime prevention programs, orientations and presentations. provides assistance with residential lock outs and escort services.
  • Notifies appropriate maintenance personnel in the event of mechanical breakdowns involving campus property, lighting, and or equipment.
  • Reports any observed safety violation to a Campus Police Officer or Risk Management for action.
  • Other duties as assigned by Police Officer or Chief of Police.

Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of employment. Must be of good moral character and able to read and write the English language. Bi-lingual is a plus. Must not have been convicted of a criminal offense over a Class B Misdemeanor with in the last 5 years or ever convicted of any offense involving family/domestic violence or offense involving Moral Turpitude. Eligible for coverage under CTC's commercial auto and other liability insurance policies.
