Position: Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering
Effective Date: August 17, 2026 (Fall Semester)
Salary Range: The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary is $74,652 to $158,688/year; $6,221 to $13,224/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $103,008 to $106,008/per year $8,584 to $8,834/per month (12 monthly payments per academic year). Salary offered is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science

Required Qualification:

  • Ph.D. in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field. Areas of expertise may include, but not limited to, Networks and Systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems, Systems-on-Chip, Computer Systems and Architecture, Networking and Communications, Hardware/Software Co-Design and Systems Integration, and their applications in AI, Robotics, and Autonomous Systems. Degree at time of application or official notification of completion of the doctoral degree by August 1, 2026.
  • Demonstrated potential for effective teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels in Computer Engineering
  • Demonstrated potential for excellence in research, and other related scholarly/creative activities
  • Demonstrated commitment to working successfully with a diverse student population, including low socioeconomic and first-generation students

Preferred Qualifications:      

  • At least two years of teaching experience in undergraduate and/or graduate level courses in Computer Engineering or any related areas
  • At least one year of Postdoctoral experience especially in the following areas: Networks and Systems, Internet of Things (IoT), Embedded and Cyber-Physical Systems, Systems-on-Chip, Computer Systems and Architecture, Networking and Communications, Hardware/Software Co-Design and Systems Integration, and their applications in AI, Robotics, and Autonomous Systems
  • Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to the CSULB student body
  • Experience mentoring or supporting students using inclusive and culturally relevant teaching strategies in a diverse classroom

 Duties:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Computer Engineering and conduct laboratory experiments. Instruction in the Department of CECS is primarily in-person. (Mode of instruction may include in-person, hybrid, online, and/or any combination thereof.)
  • Contribute to the development, assessment, and continuous improvement of the Computer Engineering curriculum
  • Engage in sustained research and scholarly activities that result in peer-reviewed publications and external funding
  • Advise and mentor students to support their academic and professional growth
  • Provide service to the department, college, university, and broader community
