Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Department/Location: Alaska

Reports to: Camp Manager

Status:Temporary, Full-Time


Schedule:

Monday through Sunday As needed Overtime based on seasonal workload. Estimated working hours: 6:00 am 6:30 pm.


Summary:

Perform skilled and semi-skilled labor such as replacing windows and doors, installing kitchen cabinets, creating wood structures, repairing roofs and floors, coordinating laborers, doing demolition work, and collaborating with other skilled craftsmen in the mobe, remodel, and set-up, of Cruz facilities, in accordance with OSHA safety regulations and Cruz policies and procedures. Other skills required include: basic carpentry, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work.


Essential Functions:

  • Ability in rough framing and interior finish carpentry.
  • Repair, install and replace plumbing such as copper sweating, PEX, PVC, and ABS.
  • Able to install carpet, tile, room furnishings and cabinets per print.
  • Rough-in, trim-out, and installation of electrical wiring. This includes landing of panels troubleshooting/ tracing circuits and the understanding of HVAC components.
  • Perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled facilities preventative maintenance, component replacement, and repair tasks.
  • Have a clear understanding of Blueprints and ability to read them.
  • Work on assigned projects and make appropriate decisions based on work experience and individual skill. Notify supervisors of repair problems beyond personal scope of authority
  • Inspect and maintain assigned equipment and small tools for proper operating condition, and completes minor repairs as needed.
  • Operate vehicles and equipment in accordance with all safety and regulations and procedures; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
  • Notifies supervisor of all damage in accordance with Cruz Construction procedures.
  • Log daily hours worked on each task and equipment.
  • Obtain estimates for supplies and repair parts, and order parts as needed.
  • Perform outside jobs such as siding repairs, roofing, and window install/ replacement.
  • All employees are required to provide their own tools (SAE and metric). Such tools include, but are not limited to the following:
    • Nut drivers
    • Channel locks (various sizes)
    • Socket set (5/16 to 1)
    • Alan wrench set (kit up to 3/8)
    • Alan socket set (1/4 up to 5/8)
    • Crescent wrench set (6, 8, 12)
    • Open end wrench set (1/4 to 1)
    • 600V rated meter (1000A or greater)
    • Ten in one screwdriver
    • Aviation snips (right, left, straight)
    • Dikes
    • Needle-nose plyers
    • Linemans
    • Wire strippers
    • Utility knife
    • Cordless screw gun and impact
    • Basic carpenter tools and bags

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function and preferably can also perform other tasks satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.


Education and/or Experience:

Minimum:

  • Four years of experience in skilled building trades. 6 months of prior experience as a laborer.
  • Basic skills in carpentry, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical work.


Preferred:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Specific trade certifications/licenses.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of basic carpentry, mechanical and basic electrical and plumbing work.
  • Knowledge of operations and safety practices and procedures.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, communicate effectively with fellow workers and clients.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform physical labor in harsh winter conditions.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and in small group situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all unites of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, percent, and to interpret miscellaneous drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50lbs and manipulate up to 100lbs.
  • Ability to work comfortably at heights and in small spaces.
  • Ability to safely operate vehicles, equipment, and tools.
