Are you detail orientated and have a love for cleaning? We are looking for a motivated individual to come join our custodial team. If you would like to work in a fast paced, community enriching, and transformational organization, this is the job for you! 

POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Under the direction of Custodial Leadership, the Custodian cleans and sanitizes to provide legendary experience to members and provides leadership to the department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Ensures facilities are attractive and clean by completing all duties listed on the daily schedule and maintain upkeep of assigned areas and equipment.
  2. Performs duties including mopping, cleaning and sanitizing restroom surfaces, dusting, trash removal, window washing, vacuuming, cleaning bases of exercise equipment, seasonal activities consisting of snow removal and general cleaning.
  3. Perform housekeeping laundry, refilling disinfectant bottles, and restocking closets.
  4. Operates and trains others on the proper use of motorized and non-motorized equipment.
  5. Ability to follow checklist complete tasks and ask for guidance as needed.
  6. Ability to work independently and follow verbal and/or written instructions.
  7. Train, coach, and mentor Custodial staff members.
  8. Assist Custodial leadership in daily responsibilities with staff and ensure productivity and quality work.
  9. Maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
  10. Records and reports all needed repairs; repairs as directed.
  11. Assist with minor building maintenance and possess knowledge of motorized machine operation for custodial equipment.
  12. Ensures YMCA building and property is secure during shift and report incidents and hazardous conditions to supervisor.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Minimum age 18 required.
  2. 1 year or more of related experience required.
  3. Certifications required within 30 days of hire: CPR/AED & First Aid and New Employee Orientation.
  4. Complete Listen First and I Hear You Service with Care training within designated time.
  5. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  6. Ability to relate and communicate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  7. Ability to read and interpret instructions, procedures, manuals, and other documents
  8. Must be able to travel within Lake County to other Crossroad Branches.
  9. Must be able to work flexible schedule of nights, weekends, and holidays.
