Position Overview Performs entry-level field inspections and surveys to detect cross connections and ensure proper application and operation of backflow prevention devices. Trainees assist licensed Cross Control Technicians with basic tasks and operating tools and equipment under supervision. Work is performed with close guidance and provides structured training to prepare the employee for progression to a Cross Connection Control Tech III.
Position Functions Assist with conducting field inspections and tests of backflow prevention devices and assist with repairs/recommendations as required. Advise consumers of the intent and purpose of the Cross-Connection Control Program. Notify property owners of required repairs to backflow preventers.
Identify cross connections. Assist with installing backflow preventers to include excavation and restoration. Assist in the development of records required by the City's manual of Cross Connection Controls.
Assist with replacing meters, meter boxes or curb stops as needed. Assist during emergency response efforts related to water main breaks, service outages, or other water system failures. Provide emergency support for water-related issues and participate in on-call rotations as required.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential and may be required to perform duties outside of their normal job description. Complete required trainings as specified within the City Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. Drive to City work sites.
Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or G.E.D. Valid driver license
Must obtain state of Florida driver license within thirty (30) days of employment. PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in the operations maintenance of a dual water distribution system. Willingness to adopt AI and emerging technologies.
Licensing Requirements: Must obtain a FDEP Water Distribution 3 License within 24 months of employment. Must obtain a TREEO Backflow Prevention Device Tester Certificate within 6 months of employment. Must obtain a Reclaimed Water Field Site Inspector Certification with one year of employment Must obtain Basic Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification within one year of employment Career Development: Upon obtaining a FEDP Water Distribution 3 License, Backflow Prevention Device Tester, Reclaimed Water Field Site Inspector, and Basic MOT, the employee may be promoted to Cross Connection Control Technician III, and may receive a 5% pay increase Supplemental Information Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a background screening.
Driving history for the past three (3) years must reflect no violations of a driving related felony offense, or driving under the influence (DUI) which includes both drugs and alcohol, reckless driving, or hit and run involving an occupied vehicle or attended property, or an accumulation of traffic violations, plus three (3) points for each attendance at driving school (regardless of whether points were assessed against the license) where the penalty points do not exceed twelve (12). Position is considered at-risk for exposure to Hepatitis B during performance of regular duties. An acceptance/declination of vaccination form is required.
