Job Title: Piping DesignerJob Description

The Piping Designer is responsible for designing and laying out piping systems in industrial or marine environments using 3D design software. They create detailed drawings for fabrication shops and field crews to build, modify, and install piping systems. This role involves reviewing existing systems, designing new pipe routes, creating fabrication packages, and solving layout challenges in complex environments where space is limited and conditions may not match the original drawings.

Responsibilities
  • Design and lay out piping systems using 3D design software.
  • Create detailed drawings for fabrication shops and field crews.
  • Review existing systems and design new or modified pipe routes.
  • Develop fabrication packages and production-ready documentation.
  • Solve layout challenges in environments with limited space.
  • Use 3D laser scans to reverse engineer existing systems.
  • Work directly with fabrication crews and mechanics.
  • Interpret P&IDs, piping drawings, mechanical drawings, arrangement drawings, and specifications.
  • Create pipe fabrication drawings, spool drawings, and installation drawings.
Essential Skills
  • 5+ years of piping design or detailing experience in marine, shipbuilding, industrial, manufacturing, refinery, power generation, or process piping environments.
  • 5+ years of experience using AutoCAD Plant 3D or similar 3D piping design software.
  • Strong understanding of piping systems, equipment, valves, fittings, supports, and fabrication practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping drawings, mechanical drawings, arrangement drawings, specifications, and field markups/redlines.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Solidworks, Inventor, and Creo.
  • Experience creating fabrication drawings and spool drawings.
  • Experience with 3D laser scanning.
  • Background in marine or industrial environments.
Work Environment

The role involves working both on the floor of a ship and at a desk creating fabrication drawings. The environment includes supporting maritime projects under a government contract, providing opportunities to engage in ship repair and modernization efforts. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $41.27/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
