Job description

The Department of English and Creative Writing in the College of Arts and Sciences at Widener University invites applications for the position of adjunct professor of English (first-year writing). Applicants must have experience teaching first-year writing and be dedicated to working collaboratively in a department and university that values diversity.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

Essential duties:

  • Teaching one-three courses (depending on need) in Fall 2025 (ENGL 101 and/or introduction to literature courses, depending on need)
  • Creating syllabi and assignments designed to hone writing, research, and critical thinking skills
  • Emphasizing writing as a process through peer review, actionable feedback on drafts, student-instructor conferences, etc.
  • Evaluating student work based on course goals
  • Holding 4 office hours per week

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required):

Required:

  • MA or above in English, Rhetoric/Composition, Creative Writing, or a related field.
  • Experience teaching first-year writing courses at the college level (composition, literature surveys)
