What is remote poetry?

A Remote Poetry job involves writing, editing, or performing poetry while working from a location outside of a traditional office, often from home. This can include freelance projects, content creation for publications, or commissioned poetry for clients. Some poets also work remotely as educators, workshop facilitators, or social media content creators sharing their work online. Remote poetry jobs require strong writing skills, creativity, and often digital literacy to share and promote work effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in remote poetry, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Poet, you need a strong command of language, creativity in literary expression, and an understanding of poetic forms and techniques, often supported by a degree in English, Creative Writing, or equivalent writing experience. Familiarity with digital writing platforms, word processing tools, and online collaboration software is important. Self-motivation, resilience, and the ability to accept and apply editorial feedback are key soft skills for success in this field. These skills enable poets to produce compelling work, meet deadlines remotely, and build professional relationships despite working outside of a traditional office setting.

What are the common challenges faced by remote poets, and how can they overcome them?

Remote poets often face challenges such as creative isolation, maintaining discipline without in-person supervision, and finding consistent opportunities for publication or collaboration. To overcome these issues, it's important to establish a structured daily routine, seek feedback through virtual writers' groups, and actively participate in online literary communities. Regularly submitting work to journals and networking with other writers can help build visibility and credibility in the field. Staying open to feedback and adapting your work for different audiences also helps remote poets thrive. By leveraging digital tools and staying connected, remote poets can successfully manage the unique demands of this creative profession.

Job description

About the Opportunity

LILT is seeking skilled writers to contribute original, human-authored text samples across a range of subject domains. This work supports our language data and AI evaluation initiatives, helping ensure high-quality, authentic writing is available to benchmark and improve language technology.

What You'll Deliver
  • Write an original, human-authored text in your domain(s) of expertise (e.g., law, business, biography, religion, philosophy, poetry).

  • Follow a provided prompt as the starting point for your piece, once your domain of expertise has been identified.

  • Ensure all content is entirely original — no use of AI tools, translation tools, or copied material from any source.

  • Attest in writing to the originality of your submission.

  • Agree not to publish the content anywhere else, in accordance with the project's confidentiality terms.

Qualifications
  • Native-level fluency and strong writing skills in the target language.

  • Demonstrable subject-matter expertise in one or more domains (e.g., law, business, biography, religion, philosophy, poetry - other domains may apply).

  • Prior writing experience preferred (professional, academic, or published work).

  • Strong command of style, tone, and structure appropriate to the chosen domain.

  • Comfortable working independently from a prompt with minimal creative guidance.

  • Strict adherence to originality and confidentiality requirements.

Why Collaborate with Lilt?
  • Your schedule, your rules. As an independent contractor, work when you want, as much or as little as you want. No fixed hours, no check-ins, no micromanaging.

  • Get paid quickly and fairly. We respect your time and your expertise. Competitive rates, prompt payments, no chasing invoices.

  • Work on projects that actually matter. Contribute to cutting-edge AI and language technology that is shaping how humans and machines communicate.

  • Be part of something bigger. Join a global community of linguists, subject matter experts, and language professionals who are advancing human knowledge together.

  • Grow without limits. As a Lilt contractor you get access to diverse, innovative projects that expand your portfolio and sharpen your skills across industries and domains.

  • Have fun doing what you love. Bring your language skills to life on projects that are as interesting as they are impactful. We are building a rigorous, verifiable evaluation suite of Terminal-Bench tasks designed to test the limits of large language models on multilingual software challenges. Our goal is to measure multilingual robustness across prompt language effects, non-English data processing, and complex locale/encoding edge cases in terminal workflows.

What to Consider Before Applying
  • Not ideal as a full time job or primary income source. Work availability fluctuates with project demand, making this better suited as a supplemental income stream. As a 1099 contractor, you won't receive benefits such as health insurance, paid time off, or retirement contributions, and hours are not guaranteed.

  • Requires reliable availability and commitment. Once you accept a task, we expect quality work and on-time delivery. Most tasks require a minimum of 2 hours per day or 10 hours per week. If your schedule is unpredictable, this may not be the right fit.

  • Geographic restrictions may apply. We cannot engage contractors in regions subject to international embargo or sanctions. As a 1099 contractor, you are solely responsible for your own tax obligations. We recommend consulting a tax professional before engaging.
