Architect (3+ Years of Experience) About Us

At Neumann Monson Architects, we’re all about thoughtful design and strong connections. Based in Iowa City and Des Moines, we approach every project with a creative Midwestern sensibility, prioritizing trust, community, and impactful architecture. Guided by our core values—building trust, driving positive change, and redefining excellence—we craft purposeful designs that make a difference.

About the Role

We’re looking for experienced architects with three or more years of professional experience to join our team. This is a hands‑on opportunity to grow your skills, contribute to exciting projects, and collaborate with a team that’s big on mentorship and support. If you’re curious, detail‑oriented, and eager to take on new challenges, we’d love to hear from you!

What You’ll Do
  • Managing and collaborating with the design team to develop creative design solutions.
  • Produce design drawings, construction documents, presentation materials, and physical or digital models.
  • Conduct design analyses, including daylighting studies, shadow studies, and parti diagrams.
  • Develop and confirm compliance with building codes, ADA regulations, and other requirements.
  • Document site visits and participate in construction administration activities.
  • Mentor entry‑level team members, fostering their growth and ensuring quality in their work.
  • Contribute to office‑wide initiatives and actively participate in project meetings and presentations, occasionally leading select meetings.

This is an in‑person role, offering an immersive experience in our studio culture and projects.

What We’re Looking For
  • A professional degree in architecture from an accredited institution.
  • Experience managing project teams and client relationships.
  • Skills in Revit, 3D modeling tools (SketchUp, Rhino), rendering software (Lumion, Enscape, D5), and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Bonus points for experience with coding tools (Dynamo, Grasshopper) or environmental modeling software.
  • A collaborative mindset and passion for thoughtful, responsible design.
  • Self‑driven work ethic, someone with strong initiative.
  • Work and/or residency permits for eligibility.
Why You’ll Love Working Here

At Neumann Monson, collaboration and creativity are at the heart of what we do. We foster a welcoming, open environment where everyone’s voice matters. Grounded in trust, empathy, and curiosity, we believe in continuous growth and thoughtful design processes. While we love the magic of in‑person collaboration, we also support flexibility through occasional remote work to help you maintain a healthy work‑life balance. Here, you’ll find opportunities to learn, teach, and thrive in a team that values relationships and exploration.

Benefits
  • Competitive Pay: Annual salary reviews, quarterly bonuses, and a commitment to pay equity.
  • 401(k) with Profit Sharing: Generous contributions of up to 15% of your annual gross pay—no match required.
  • Comprehensive Insurance: Health, dental, vision, life, and disability coverage with significant employer contributions.
  • Generous Paid Leave: PTO, parental leave, and paid volunteer hours.
  • Wellness Support: Annual wellness reimbursements and access to a private wellness room.
  • Education: Up to $2,000 annually for professional development.
  • Licensure: Reimbursement for exams once passed, licensure fees, and study materials.
  • Flexibility: Options for occasional remote work and flexible scheduling.
  • Community Impact: Paid volunteer hours, charitable giving programs, and support for involvement with organizations like AIA and USGBC.
Why Join Us?

At Neumann Monson, we celebrate diverse perspectives and believe in empowering our team to do their best work. As a certified JUST™ organization, we’re committed to fostering an inclusive and inspiring workplace. Join us to create designs that make an impact and shape the future of architecture.
