Creative Studio Remote Jobs in Iowa (NOW HIRING)

Creative Studio Remote information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Creative Studio Remote professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Creative Studio Remote professional, you need a strong background in graphic design, digital media production, and creative problem-solving, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio of work. Proficiency with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), project management software, and collaboration platforms is typically required. Strong communication, time management, and self-motivation are essential soft skills for excelling in remote and collaborative environments. These abilities ensure high-quality creative output, efficient teamwork, and the capacity to meet client or project deadlines in a remote setting.

What is a Creative Studio Remote?

A Creative Studio Remote refers to a team or individual who provides creative services such as graphic design, video production, branding, or digital content creation while working remotely. These professionals use collaboration tools and cloud-based platforms to deliver high-quality creative assets without being physically present in a traditional studio environment. This remote setup allows for flexibility, access to a broader talent pool, and cost savings for clients or agencies seeking creative work.

How does a remote creative studio team typically collaborate to deliver projects effectively?

Remote creative studio teams rely heavily on digital collaboration tools, such as project management platforms, shared design software, and regular video meetings to ensure smooth communication and project tracking. Team members often work across different time zones, so clear documentation and asynchronous feedback are crucial. Creative brainstorming, design reviews, and client presentations are usually conducted virtually, requiring strong self-motivation and proactive communication. Despite the distance, remote creative studios foster a collaborative environment with scheduled check-ins and virtual workshops to maintain team cohesion and project momentum.

Job description

Join the Slingers! Slingshot is seeking a talented, licensed Architect 1 (3–5 years of professional experience) to join our passionate, purpose-driven studio in Des Moines. We're a small but mighty team of architects and designers dedicated to crafting meaningful, human-centered commercial spaces that elevate everyday life and strengthen Midwestern communities. Our work spans architecture, interiors, and urbanism — always with a focus on clarity, precision, and real impact.

As a teaching studio, we value team members who take ownership of their work while growing alongside talented colleagues. You'll contribute meaningfully to projects from concept through construction, with opportunities to take on independent design responsibilities for moderate-scale projects and support team growth.

What You'll Do

  • Independently perform a variety of assignments requiring skills across all conventional aspects of architectural design for projects of small to moderate size and complexity.
  • Perform analyses of design, planning, and occupancy studies, and prepare limited design layouts.
  • Prepare project specifications by compiling and analyzing relevant data.
  • Write reports and specifications; review completed reports, plans, estimates, and calculations.
  • Develop and document architectural scope under the direction of senior team members, with increasing independence.
  • Produce complete construction documentation packages, including floor plans, elevations, sections, details, and schedules.
  • Demonstrate competency across design phases, incorporating feedback effectively from project crits and design burst meetings.
  • Ensure compliance with building codes, accessibility standards, and project protocols.
  • Manage work across multiple projects; support and mentor junior staff as needed.
  • Lead limited construction-phase services, including site visits, submittal reviews, RFIs, and field reports.
  • Learn and apply the SSA design process and key software tools (ArchiCAD, SketchUp, Miro & Basecamp).
  • Present design concepts confidently to internal stakeholders and clients.
  • Attend client meetings, design critiques, and collaborative sessions

Who We're Looking For: The ideal "Slinger" holds a professional degree in architecture (B.Arch or M.Arch), is a licensed professional architect (or certification as a licensed professional required), and brings 3–5 years of related professional experience. You thrive when you:

  • Are a self-starter who can work autonomously and shares our drive to create meaningful work in a collaborative environment.
  • Excel in a fast-paced, small-team setting committed to exceeding expectations daily.
  • Demonstrate strong design skills across conventional architectural aspects, with a generous approach to teamwork and clarity in communication.
  • Possess working knowledge of building systems, materials, codes, and construction documentation.
  • Have solid sketching, modeling, and rendering skills.
  • Are proficient in ArchiCAD (or similar BIM software), Adobe Creative Suite, and MS Office.
  • Bring strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Can work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
  • Are highly organized and adept at managing time and tasks across multiple projects.

What We Offer

  • 40 hrs work week
  • Remote Work Opportunities (after onboarding and training are completed)
  • Flexible Schedule with 9a-3p core hours
  • Health Insurance
  • Dental & Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance, STD & LTD covered 100% for employee
  • Maternity Leave
  • 401k plan with Company Match
  • Monthly Gym Benefit
  • Volunteer Time Off
  • Professional Development Stipend
  • Leadership Involved In Day-to-Day
  • A Teaching Studio & Collaborative Environment
  • Relaxed Dress Code
  • Dog-Friendly Office
  • Beverages & Snacks
  • Quarterly Team Events
