Job description

Overview
This position will assist the GNY Music & Creative Arts Department in operating the Summer Music & Creative Arts Conservatory programs by serving as a junior counselor for Conservatory Students and helping with/instructing classes and groups.
Responsibilities
Conservatory Orientation: June 24th - 26th (arrive by 10am on Wednesday, June 24th)
-Clean and prepare cabins for Conservatory student arrival
-Set-up equipment as needed in all rooms used for Conservatory
-Prepare music folders and copy music as needed
-Counselor Orientation and Training Sessions
-Assist with any other duties as assigned by the Divisional Music & Creative Arts Director
Junior Music & Creative Arts Conservatory: June 27th - July 2nd
-Assist Senior Counselors and M&CA Staff with supervision and administrative duties:
-Preparing afternoon snacks for Conservatory Students
-Helping with evening devotions in cabins
-Supervising Conservatory student wake-up, showering, cabin cleaning, etc.
-Meal time supervision
-Supervising cabin clean-up & inspection at the end of each session
-Supervising students while traveling between cabins, the Village Complex, and other camp
locations
-Enforcing promptness for all classes
-Assist with Conservatory classes as assigned
-Assist with general cabin activities (swimming, recreation, etc.) & evening programs as needed
-Assist students who take regular medication to travel to the Health Unit
-Assist with tear-down and clean-up after finale concerts
-Assist in other duties as assigned by the Divisional Music & Creative Arts Director
Music & Creative Arts Camp: July 6th - July 11th (return to camp by 5:00pm, Sunday, July 5th)
-Assist with setting up and preparing various locations the night before
-Assist with auditions as needed
-Conduct and/or assist with classes as needed
-Assist with set up for the finale
-Assist with tear down, packing, and return of equipment after finale
Senior Music & Creative Arts Conservatory: July 14th - July 21st (return to Camp by 6:00pm Monday, July 13th)
(same responsibilities as Junior Conservatory)
Post-Conservatory Cleanup: Thursday, July 22nd
-Assist in fully cleaning cabins, rooms, program spaces, and returning all M&CA equipment to assigned areas
Qualifications
  • Proficiency in performing and teaching music and/or creative arts discipline
  • Must work well with young people and be willing to care for children and teens
  • Uniformed Salvationist who participates in music or arts ensembles at the Corps and Divisional level
  • 16 years of age or older
