  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field.

Experience Required:
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in communications, journalism, public relations or marketing.
  • Portfolio or writing samples demonstrating clear, engaging communication across multiple platforms

Skills Required:
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms
  • Familiarity with AP Style
  • Proficiency in social media content creation, with a basic understanding of analytics and platform best practices
  • Experience writing for digital media, including website or newsletters using a content management system
  • Basic photography, video, or graphic design skills (Canva, Adobe Express or Creative Suite)
  • Strong organizational communication and time-management skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines and work collaboratively across teams

Skills Preferred:

Function:
Under the direction of the Associate Director for Creative Services, the Communication Specialist develops written and digital content to support district communications, branding and storytelling efforts. This role combines writing, editing, and storytelling to ensure the district's communications are consistent across platforms
Reports To: Associate Director for Creative Services
Responsibilities:
  • Deliver exemplary customer service, working cooperatively with staff and the community
  • Maintain professionalism, productivity, and adaptability while supporting district and Office of Communications initiatives.
  • Write, edit and proofread content including newsletters, website content, social media posts and marketing materials.
  • Translate complex district initiatives into clear, approachable communications for parents, guardians, and the community
  • Coordinate and promote district events, working with principals, vendors and staff to manage logistics, communications and promotional materials
  • Assist in managing and updating district social media channels with timely, engaging content
  • Monitor digital trends and propose new ideas for content and engagement opportunities
  • Partner with Graphic Design and Multimedia Specialists to develop cohesive campaigns that align copy with visuals and video
  • Provide Communications-related training or guidance for campus staff as needed
  • Provide coverage of district events by capturing photos, videos, and story materials to be used in newsletters, social media, and other district communications

Working Conditions:
  • Office and field settings with frequent district-wide travel and occasional out-of-district assignments
  • Use of standard office technology, photography and video tools, and content management systems
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and receive instructions in both verbal and written formats
  • Ability to work extended and irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed.
