Job description

Center City District is seeking a Director of Creative Services to join our team.
This is a newly defined role that expands CCD's in-house creative capacity to encompass brand management, integrated project management, strategic campaign development, and oversight of the full vendor and partner ecosystem.

This position is responsible for overseeing CCD’s graphic design department, managing the full lifecycle of creative projects across departments, and ensuring the timely, high-quality production of publications and promotional materials. The role extends beyond print and digital into the public realm, including outdoor environmental graphics and branding for CCD’s parks and public spaces, where design directly shapes the visitor experience.

The ideal candidate brings a background in advertising agency environments, a fluency with emerging creative technologies, and the organizational acumen to manage a complex project portfolio. This is a forward-facing role for a leader who is as comfortable managing workflows and deadlines as they are shaping creative direction.

Key ResponsibilitiesCreative Leadership & Brand Stewardship
  • Provide day-to-day direction and quality oversight for all graphic design output across CCD's programs, events, and communications
  • Ensure visual consistency and brand integrity across print, digital, social, environmental, and outdoor applications, including signage, park activations, and placemaking installations
  • Author and manage creative briefs in partnership with internal stakeholders, translating program goals and audience insights into clear creative direction for the design team and outside partners.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Strategy & Design on high-level creative direction, translating strategic goals into compelling visual work
  • Champion a culture of craft, curiosity, and continuous improvement within the design team
Team Management
  • Lead a two-person design team with complementary areas of focus: one team member specializing in program and event marketing and advertising campaigns; the other focused on publications, production, and support. The Director is responsible for defining workflows, allocating capacity, and supporting the long-term professional development of both roles.
  • Set clear expectations, provide regular feedback, and conduct performance reviews
  • Foster a collaborative, organized, and accountable team environment
  • Support professional development and day-to-day productivity
Project & Production Management
  • Own the end-to-end project management process for all design and production work, from intake through delivery
  • Lead the oversight of CCD's annual report process, providing project management across multiple internal teams and outside vendors
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, workflows, and management systems
  • Prioritize and allocate design team capacity across concurrent projects and competing deadlines
  • Oversee CCD's visual asset library, including photography, illustration, and digital files, and maintain organizational systems for team-wide access and archival.
  • Lead vendor selection processes, manage RFPs, and evaluate outside creative partners, including photographers, illustrators, printers, and specialty fabricators.

Marketing, Advertising & Social Media

  • Bring marketing and advertising sensibility to CCD's visual communications, including campaigns for events, programs, and food and beverage programs
  • Develop creative briefs, campaign concepts, and integrated visual strategies for CCD programs, events, and placemaking initiatives, managing projects from strategic brief through final production and deployment.
  • Oversee design contributions to CCD's social media channels, ensuring visual consistency and relevance across platforms
  • Partner with the marketing and events team to develop creative assets for campaigns, sponsorships, and partner-facing materials

Technology & Innovation

  • Demonstrate fluency with AI-powered creative tools (e.g., Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, Figma, generative design workflows) and evaluate their appropriate use in CCD's creative process
  • Stay current with evolving design technologies, platforms, and industry trends, bringing informed recommendations to the team
  • Support the organization's evolution toward more efficient, scalable creative production
Required
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in graphic design, creative production, or creative services management, ideally within an advertising, marketing, or integrated agency environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing creative projects end-to-end with multiple concurrent deadlines
  • Experience supervising or mentoring designers or creative staff
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop) and current design production workflows
  • Working knowledge of print production, including vendor management and prepress processes
  • Experience with social media platforms, digital advertising, and digital content
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to balance multiple deadlines within a robust organization
  • Experience hiring and directing photographers and videographers
Preferred
  • Hands-on experience with AI-powered design tools and a curiosity about their evolving role in creative production
  • Experience managing annual reports, institutional publications, or complex multi-format print projects
  • Familiarity with information design, cartographic design, and data visualization.
  • Familiarity with urban placemaking, civic organizations, business improvement districts, or the nonprofit sector
  • Experience working with or alongside marketing, events, or communications teams
  • Experience with outdoor environmental graphic design, wayfinding systems, signage design, or placemaking activation branding, particularly in parks, public spaces, or mixed-use urban environments
