Description
Elizabethtown College invites applications for a Part-Time Adjunct Instructor to teach one section of ART 345: Advanced Photography in Spring 2027. This is an in-person teaching position.
This upper-level course builds on Digital Photography foundations and emphasizes manual camera control, RAW workflow, advanced editing, visual storytelling, and event photography.
The successful candidate will guide students through hands-on photographic production, rigorous critique, and portfolio development while fostering ethical, professional, and creative standards in contemporary photographic practice.
ART 345: Advanced Photography builds on skills developed in Digital Photography. Students work with DSLR and mobile cameras, shoot fully manual, process RAW files, and use advanced tools in Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. The course explores creative color work, storytelling, and professional event photography. Students complete a polished mini-portfolio demonstrating both creative and applied photographic work.
Requirements
Essential Responsibilities
  • Teach one section of ART 345 in alignment with the approved syllabus and departmental learning outcomes
  • Provide instruction in advanced camera techniques, lighting, composition, and RAW workflow
  • Teach ethical and professional standards related to digital manipulation and representation
  • Lead critiques using clear artistic and technical vocabulary
  • Instruct advanced image editing using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
  • Coordinate out-of-classroom photography shoots, including possible off-campus shoots and required event shoots
  • Support students in developing a cohesive final portfolio and artist statement
  • Maintain regular communication, timely assessment, and accurate academic records
  • Hold office hours

Required Qualifications
  • MFA in Photography, Studio Art, or closely related field OR Bachelor's degree with significant professional experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in DSLR photography, manual exposure, and RAW processing
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom
  • Experience teaching or mentoring students at the college or advanced secondary level
  • Strong commitment to inclusive, respectful, and student-centered pedagogy
  • Must reside in Pennsylvania or Maryland for employment

Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional experience in event photography or commercial photographic practice
  • Experience teaching critiques and portfolio development
  • Familiarity with both DSLR and mobile photography workflows
