We are seeking a collaborative, organized, and service-oriented Operations Manager – Custodial Services to lead our custodial operations and help ensure our schools remain clean, safe, and welcoming for students, staff, and the community.This leadership position partners closely with the Director of Property Services to oversee district-wide custodial services, supervise custodial staff, coordinate daily operations, and promote high standards of cleanliness, safety, and operational excellence. The Operations Manager primarily oversees second-shift custodial operations while supporting custodial services across the district.

What You'll Do

As the Operations Manager – Custodial Services, you will:

  • Provide leadership and oversight for custodial operations throughout the district.
  • Supervise, support, schedule, train, and evaluate building custodians.
  • Maintain high standards for cleanliness, safety, and facility readiness.
  • Coordinate staffing, payroll approvals, leave requests, and coverage for custodial personnel.
  • Participate in recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, and mentoring custodial staff.
  • Manage custodial equipment, supplies, and inventory while coordinating with vendors.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, safety regulations, and applicable building codes.
  • Coordinate custodial support for school and community events, including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and communicate effectively with district leaders, staff, vendors, and contractors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of district operations.
What We're Looking ForRequired Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Vermont driver's license.
  • Minimum of three years of custodial experience preferred.
  • Experience supervising or leading teams, including hiring, training, coaching, and performance management.
  • Ability to effectively use computer technology, including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to respond to operational needs outside of regular work hours when necessary.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship.
Preferred Knowledge & Skills

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of custodial operations, preventive maintenance systems, and work order management.
  • Familiarity with OSHA/VOSHA regulations, life safety requirements, and building codes.
  • Experience working in unionized environments and collaborating with multiple stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and supporting school communities.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical work as needed.

Working Conditions:
This role involves both office and on-site work in a variety of environments, including:

  • Inside and outside conditions, with exposure to weather, noise, dust, and odors.

  • Physical requirements such as standing, walking, climbing ladders, kneeling, lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds, and operating mechanical/electrical equipment.

  • Occasional evening meetings and flexible scheduling are required.

EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS:

Compensation is based on experience. In addition to great health benefits and paid time off, this full-time position is an hourly position paid Bi-Weekly.
