What is creative media?

Creative media refers to the use of various digital and traditional platforms to produce content that communicates ideas, stories, or information in visually engaging and innovative ways. This field encompasses areas such as graphic design, video production, animation, photography, web design, and audio production. Professionals in creative media often work in advertising, entertainment, marketing, or digital communication, using their skills to craft compelling visuals, audio, or interactive experiences. The goal is to connect with audiences through creative storytelling and effective visual communication.

What jobs can you get with creative media?

Creative media graduates can pursue roles such as graphic designer, video editor, multimedia artist, social media manager, content creator, animator, and digital marketing specialist. These jobs often require skills in design software, video production, and digital communication, and may involve working in advertising agencies, media companies, or freelance environments.

Creativity, strong collaboration, and excellent communication skills help professionals stand out by enabling innovative ideas and effective teamwork. These skills and qualities are crucial for producing engaging media content that resonates with audiences and meets project goals.

Summary

We're looking for a creative and strategic Social Media Strategist to own our global organic social presence and continue evolving how Smarsh shows up across digital channels. This role is responsible for strategy and execution. You'll partner cross-functionally across the organization to bring a social-first perspective to campaigns, product launches, thought leadership, and brand storytelling. You'll also identify opportunities to amplify the voices of our employees, executives, and regulatory experts while creating content that builds brand awareness, engagement, and trust with our audiences.

The ideal candidate is equal parts strategist, storyteller, and collaborator, with a passion for turning complex topics into engaging social content and helping teams think differently about the role social plays in the broader marketing mix. Leveraging AI tools is second nature.

How will you contribute?
  • Own our global organic social media strategy across key platforms like LinkedIn and YouTube, ensuring it aligns with business priorities and brand objectives.
  • Manage the social media editorial calendar and balance competing priorities across product launches, campaigns, company news, and real-time industry conversations.
  • Partner with our Studio team to produce social-first content across a variety of formats, with a strong understanding of what captures attention and drives engagement.
  • Lead our executive thought leadership initiatives by identifying content opportunities, ghostwriting social posts, and helping our leaders build authentic, engaging personal brands.
  • Conceptualize and edit short-form video content optimized for social, applying platform best practices, strong hooks, and storytelling techniques to maximize performance.
  • Monitor performance, analyze audience insights, and use data to continually optimize content, creative, and channel strategy.
  • Manage and scale our employee advocacy program, empowering Smarsh team members to become trusted voices and extend the reach of our brand.
  • Extend the reach of high-performing organic social content through paid post boosting and maintain monthly boosting budget.
  • Occasionally travel to industry and company events to capture compelling social content, amplify key moments in real time, and develop content that extends the life of the event itself.
  • Monitor social media channels for brand mentions, flag comments or messages to stakeholders, and ensure response in a timely and professional manner.
  • Stay ahead of platform trends, emerging technologies, and AI tools, proactively bringing new ideas that keep the Smarsh social presence innovative and competitive.
What will you bring?
  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience managing social media for B2B tech companies, with a proven track record of growing engagement and community.
  • A strong eye for visual storytelling, with experience briefing creative teams on social-first assets and producing select content independently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a talent for creating content that connects with global audiences.
  • Experience building or scaling employee advocacy programs that leverage internal experts to build brand authority and trust.
  • Proficiency with social media management/analytics tools (ex. Sprout Social) and the ability to translate metrics into actionable growth strategies.
  • Strong project management instincts, including comfort balancing competing priorities and multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, or similar platforms to enhance content creation and streamline workflows.
  • Proven success building relationships and influencing cross-functional stakeholders across marketing, product, sales, and other teams.
  • A genuine passion for social media, emerging trends/platforms, and finding new ways to help brands connect with their audiences.
What will give you an edge?
  • Deep technical knowledge of the LinkedIn algorithm, YouTube SEO, and social media for AEO/SEO.
  • Experience with video editing tools (ex. Final Cut, Premiere, Descript, etc.) and/or a background in producing social-focused video content.
  • Experience developing executive thought leadership strategies and ghostwriting content for senior leaders.
  • Background working in highly regulated industries, such as financial services, cybersecurity, or compliance.
  • Experience with graphic design tools like Canva and/or Figma.
  • Knowledge of paid social amplification strategies and the ability to execute post boosting.
  • A strong portfolio showcasing your previous work.
