Job description

Position Overview
The Manager, Graphic Planning & Design leads the strategy, development, and execution of graphic planning, storefront visual communications, and complex store design initiatives across Burlington's retail portfolio. This role partners closely with Store Planning, Design, Construction, Real Estate, Operations, Merchandising, and Marketing teams to create innovative, brand-aligned retail environments that support business objectives, elevate the customer experience, and drive consistency across the fleet.
As a people leader, the Manager oversees a team of designers, fosters creative excellence, and serves as a key communicator and presenter of design concepts. This individual is responsible for translating business needs into impactful visual solutions and effectively presenting recommendations to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
Scope: Leads the strategic planning, design, and implementation of storefront graphics, visual communications, and store environment initiatives across new stores, remodels, relocations, and capital projects. Manages a team of designers and collaborates with cross-functional partners to develop scalable, brand-consistent design solutions that support enterprise growth objectives.
Impact: Drives the visual identity and customer experience across Burlington's store portfolio by influencing design strategy, enhancing brand presentation, and delivering innovative solutions that balance creativity, operational requirements, and financial objectives. This role plays a key part in shaping executive decisions, maximizing visual impact, and supporting the successful execution of growth and modernization initiatives.
A Day in the Life
Complex Store Design
  • Lead the development of graphic and environmental design solutions for high-profile and complex store locations, collaborating with Store Planning, Design, Construction, Marketing, and Real Estate teams to create cohesive retail environments.
  • Create compelling renderings, presentations, elevations, and design packages that support lease negotiations, executive decision-making, and strategic planning initiatives.
  • Review architectural drawings and site-specific conditions to ensure design concepts align with project requirements, business objectives, and brand standards.
  • Prepare and deliver persuasive presentations to executive leadership and key stakeholders, clearly communicating design strategies, opportunities, and recommendations.

Storefront Graphics Planning
  • Lead the planning and design of storefront graphic programs, including window film, banners, lightboxes, and other exterior visual elements for new stores, remodels, relocations, downsizing projects, and capital initiatives.
  • Develop creative storefront solutions that maximize brand presence while accommodating site-specific architectural, landlord, and code requirements.
  • Manage annual RFPs for graphic vendors.
  • Review and approve graphic layouts, vendor proposals, quotations, and project budgets while presenting design recommendations and rationale to key stakeholders.

Team Leadership & Management
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of graphic planners through coaching, performance feedback, and career development opportunities that promote continuous growth and engagement.
  • Manage team workload and resources across seasonal rollouts, store development projects, and strategic initiatives, ensuring priorities align with business objectives.
  • Review design work, graphic packages, renderings, and presentations, providing clear creative direction, constructive feedback, and innovative solutions.

You'll Come With
  • BA/BS in Graphic Design, Environmental Design, Retail Design, Architecture, Interior Design, or related field. or significant relevant experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in retail design, graphic planning, environmental graphics, or store design.
  • 2+ years of leadership experience managing design teams is a plus.
  • Exceptional presentation, storytelling, and communication skills, with the ability to confidently present to executive leadership and influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to corporate office and for site visits.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office.
  • Desire to learn all aspects of Burlington's retail process.
  • Strong Project management experience.

Physical Requirements:
  • Requires the ability to stand for periods of time.
  • Up to 20% travel required to all territories.
