Job description

We are seeking a Warehouse Material Lead to oversee daily dock operations and lead a team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on “player-coach” role where you’ll drive accuracy, efficiency, and safety while managing the flow of inbound materials and outbound shipments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Dock Operations: Oversee all inbound and outbound shipments
  • Inventory Accuracy: Verify materials against Packing Slips, Purchase Orders (POs), and Bills of Lading (BOLs)
  • Team Leadership: Train and lead material handlers and forklift operators on safety, processes, and systems
  • Shipping Compliance: Ensure all outbound freight meets customer routing and carrier requirements
  • Carrier Coordination: Communicate with drivers and dispatchers; resolve shipping issues (damaged freight, shortages, missed pickups)
  • Equipment & Facility Maintenance: Ensure docks, forklifts, and equipment are safe and operational; coordinate preventive maintenance
  • Scrap Management: Coordinate vendor pickups and manage scrap removal processes
  • Support additional operational needs as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience

  • 3–5 years in warehouse/dock operations
  • 1–2 years in a lead or senior-level role

Technical Skills

  • Experience with:
    • Forklifts (Sit-down, Reach), Pallet Jacks, Scissor Lifts
    • ERP/MRP systems and shipping portals (FedEx, UPS)
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Bills of Lading, Packing Lists, Commercial Invoices
    • Inventory control and dock processes
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Strong understanding of 5S / lean warehouse practices

Preferred Experience

  • Lean Manufacturing environment
  • Kitting / Just-in-Time (JIT) delivery to production
  • Experience working with freight brokers and securing spot rates

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Standing/walking for extended periods
  • Bending, crouching, and reaching required
  • Manufacturing/shop environment (temperature variations)
  • Exposure to noise; PPE required
  • Must wear safety gear (steel-toe boots, safety glasses, etc.)
