Augustana University is located in the growing and vibrant city of Sioux Falls, South Dakota with a metro area of over 265,000 people. Build a nationally competitive men's hockey program that competes at the Division I level 2. Win the Division II Learfield Director's Cup celebrating broad based excellence.

With the addition of the $70 million Midco Arena, Augustana Athletics has launched the first collegiate hockey program in South Dakota in 2023 and is also the first athletics program to compete at Division I that calls Sioux Falls home. Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs, Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community, highlighted by three team national championships since 2016. Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Directorโ€™s Cup in 2021-22 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.

Director of Video & Creative Content

The Director of Video & Creative Content will work closely with members of the athletic administration staff and coaches and the marketing and communications office in developing content that tells the story of Augustana programs, student-athletes and the University. This position is responsible for all aspects of video production including streaming using the new Midco Media Campus & Production Center and supports efforts of creative content ideation for Augustanaโ€™s 22 intercollegiate sports. We provide a student-athlete centered experience committed to distinction in the classroom, excellence in competition, with faithful service to community.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Create compelling video content for multiple platforms and owned communication channels, from short-form social media & video board content to long-form features for website and broadcast projects.
  • Responsible for developing, managing, and maintaining dynamic content that strategically enhances the Augustana University Athletics visual brand and takes advantage of storytelling opportunities.
  • Collaborates with communications, marketing and development staff on social media strategy and content development that enhances revenue streams, fan engagement and brand awareness.
  • Shoots video at practices, home games, select road games, community and special events to generate content and assists/coordinates interviews intended for video.
  • Develops partnerships across campus with the multimedia entrepreneurship and communications departments, student groups, and faculty to increase campus engagement as well as student internship and staffing opportunities.
  • Manages the tagging, distribution & archive of current and historical video assets.
  • Maintains all media related equipment, facilities and supplies.
  • This position will report to the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications.
  • Assist the Director of Broadcast Productions in the planning and staffing of all live stream home events utilizing the Midco Media Campus & Production Center (control room) including part-time staff, students and interns.
  • May be required to serve on committees and special projects.
  • Other administrative duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education or experience equivalent to: Bachelorโ€™s degree, preferably in video production, digital media, communications, public relations or related field.
  • Proficient with specialized software and hardware common to video production, graphic design, and social media
  • Demonstrated ability to curate and adapt content for designated communications channels.
  • Ability to work on deadline and manage several tasks simultaneously with consistent follow-through.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including interviewing, editing and proof-reading.
  • Creative self-starter with ability to exhibit diplomacy and tact while protecting confidentiality.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as typical in collegiate athletics.
  • Strict adherence to established NCAA, conference, and University rules and regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 yearsโ€™ experience in creative services and digital media.
  • Experience working in a collegiate or professional sports digital media department.
  • Significant experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects, etc.).
  • Experience with TriCaster, OBS and/or Final Cut Pro.
