The Senior Filmmaker is an experienced creative professional responsible for leading complex film projects from concept through delivery within the YouVersion Creative team. This role delivers emotionally resonant, high-quality cinematography and editing that sets quality benchmarks, leads major shoots and multi-day production initiatives, and mentors other filmmakers to elevate the team's overall storytelling output. The Senior Filmmaker brings seasoned creative judgment to ambiguous production challenges and is entrusted with high-impact, highly visible creative initiatives.
This role utilizes their skillset to deliver outcomes that align with the direction of their team to further Life.Church's mission and to reach people for Christ.
What You'll Do
Lead Film Productions
  • Bring clarity to complex production and narrative challenges through strong creative direction that advances strategic outcomes.
  • Own complex video projects from pre-production through final delivery, including animatics, filming, and editing.
  • Deliver high-quality, emotionally resonant visuals and edits that set quality benchmarks.
  • Lead major shoots and multi-day production initiatives.
  • Provide creative direction to staff and contractors on set and throughout post-production.
  • Proactively improve production processes, workflows, and storytelling approaches to strengthen team outcomes.

Elevate Team Filmmaking
  • Mentor and advise junior filmmakers to strengthen their craft and creative confidence.
  • Elevate visual storytelling that reflects YouVersion brand standards.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently across creative and production roles throughout all project phases.
  • Maintain sustainable pace and output quality during demanding production cycles.

Skills Needed to Succeed
  • Advanced cinematography, lighting, directing, and editing skills with the ability to produce high quality visual content and establish creative excellence.
  • Strong ability to lead on-set environments and provide clear creative direction to cast, crew, and production partners.
  • Strong editorial judgment with the ability to shape compelling narratives and emotionally engaging visual stories.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build collaborative relationships across teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to self-motivate, make sound independent decisions, and carry assignments to completion with minimal oversight.
  • Maintain flexibility and initiative while adapting to changing priorities, production needs, and organizational objectives.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Bachelor's degree in Film Production, Digital Media, Visual Arts, Mass Communications, or a related field preferred.
  • 3-5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Advanced proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar platforms.
  • Portfolio demonstrating complex, emotionally resonant film work across varied formats, audiences, and production scales required.
