Become a Centralized Remedial Action Scheme (CRAS/RAS) Test Engineer 2 in the Substation Relay/Automation & Commissioning Group at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will:
  • Develop test plans and procedures for Remedial Action Scheme commissioning.
  • Provide remote and on-site technical support for RAS testing and resolve field technical issues.
  • Support the Centralized RAS (CRAS) team with scenario testing in Quality Assurance System (QAS) environments prior to production deployment.

Responsibilities
  • Performs inspections and evaluations of existing conditions for various electrical equipment and systems for proper installation, problem identification/ trouble shooting, and overall improvements.
  • Ensures system event assessments and RCA are performed for equipment failures and implements corrective actions, confirming proper mitigation plans are in place.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations, and design plans related to projects and analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
  • Conducts independent engineering work, receiving guidance on the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Performs power system modeling and analyses utilizing software tools and applications; stays informed of technology advancements, market trends, and relevant guidelines and standards related to energy technology.
  • Ensures the performance of day-to-day preventive maintenance activities to maintain equipment and ensure continued operation according to required standards including Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) quality and environmental and reliability standards.
  • Helps ensure infrastructure's supporting processes are validated/qualified throughout their life cycle.
  • Develops the engineering facility design, including but not limited to electrical system design, such as sizing, creating one-line diagrams, and selecting equipment.
  • Assists in the development of new technology and standards strategy and the implementation of strategies into business operations to improve power system functionality and quality of service to customers.
  • Acts as project sponsors with some technical assistance when responding to technical questions requiring project modification to move projects through their lifecycle.
  • A material job duty of all positions within the Company is ensuring the protection of all its physical, financial and cybersecurity assets, and properly accessing and managing private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information and data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Bachelor's Degree in a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Two or more years of experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with substation drawings, including one-line diagrams, AC/DC/logic schematics, and wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with protective relay testing and commissioning using industry-standard equipment and software (e.g., Doble Test Sets, Doble Protection Suite, OMICRON, GE Enervista, SEL acSELerator).
  • Advanced knowledge of digital logic, including the ability to analyze, interpret, and troubleshoot complex protection schemes and logic diagrams for substation and power system applications.
  • Experience with protection settings
  • Knowledge of IEC 61850 protocols, including GOOSE, Sampled Values, and MMS.
  • Familiarity with applicable NERC-PRC compliance and testing requirements.
  • Strong analytical, decision-making, and teamwork skills.

Additional Information
  • This position's work mode is hybrid. The employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on the remaining days. Unless otherwise noted, employees are required to work and reside in the state of California. Further details of this work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can be changed based on business needs.

  • The primary work location for this position is Pomona. The successful candidate will be required to travel, including overnight stays, to support field testing and commissioning activities throughout the SCE service territory.
  • This position has been identified as a NERC/CIP impacted position - Prior to being hired, the successful candidate must pass a Personnel Risk Assessment (PRA) or Background Investigation. Once hired, the candidate must complete specified training prior to gaining un-escorted access to assigned work location and performing necessary job duties.
