How much do crankshaft jobs pay per year?

As of Jun 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for crankshaft in the United States is $77,794.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $66,000.00 and $87,500.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

High-paying jobs related to crankshaft manufacturing or engineering, such as senior mechanical engineers, plant managers, or executive roles in automotive or aerospace industries, can reach or exceed $500,000 annually with experience, bonuses, and stock options. These positions typically require advanced technical skills, leadership experience, and often involve working in specialized manufacturing environments or corporate leadership. Such salaries are usually found in large companies or high-demand sectors with significant responsibility.

What jobs pay 2000 a day?

High-paying jobs related to crankshaft work typically include senior mechanical engineers, specialized machinists, or industrial project managers, especially in large manufacturing or automotive industries. These roles often require advanced technical skills, certifications, and experience, and may involve working in demanding environments or on complex machinery. Such positions can sometimes pay around $2,000 per day, particularly with overtime or project-based compensation.

What is a crankshaft?

A crankshaft is a key mechanical component in an internal combustion engine that converts the linear motion of the pistons into rotational motion, which ultimately powers the vehicle or machinery. It is typically made of forged steel or cast iron for durability and strength. The crankshaft is connected to the pistons via connecting rods and rotates within the engine block, transferring the engine's power to the transmission. Proper functioning of the crankshaft is essential for smooth engine operation and overall vehicle performance.

What are some common challenges faced by crankshaft machinists, and how can applicants prepare for them?

Crankshaft machinists often encounter challenges such as working with tight tolerances, ensuring precise measurements, and maintaining quality standards during repetitive tasks. The work can require standing for long periods and careful attention to detail to avoid errors that could impact engine performance. Applicants can prepare by gaining experience with precision measuring tools, familiarizing themselves with CNC machinery, and developing good problem-solving skills to quickly address any issues that arise during the machining process.

What is the main job of the crankshaft?

The main job of a crankshaft is to convert the linear motion of the pistons into rotational motion to power the engine. It also helps synchronize engine components and withstand high stresses during operation. Crankshaft technicians often use precision tools and may require certifications to ensure proper installation and maintenance.

What is the difference between Crankshaft vs Engine Rebuilder?

AspectCrankshaftEngine Rebuilder
Required CredentialsMachining certifications, mechanical skillsAutomotive repair certifications, mechanical skills
Work EnvironmentMachine shops, automotive workshopsAuto repair shops, engine rebuilding facilities
Industry UsageEngine component manufacturing and repairComplete engine overhaul and repair
Common Search/ComparisonYesYes

While a crankshaft is a specific engine component involved in converting piston motion into rotational energy, an engine rebuilder is a professional who disassembles, inspects, repairs, and reassembles entire engines, including components like the crankshaft. The crankshaft is a key part of the engine rebuilding process, but the engine rebuilder's role encompasses the entire engine, making it a broader profession in automotive repair.

What careers are related to mechanics?

Careers related to mechanics include automotive service technicians, diesel mechanics, aircraft and avionics technicians, industrial machinery mechanics, and maintenance technicians. These roles typically require technical skills, knowledge of tools and diagnostic equipment, and often certification or training programs. They involve working in repair shops, manufacturing plants, or maintenance departments across various industries.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Crankshaft Machinist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Crankshaft Machinist, you need expertise in precision machining, blueprint reading, and a solid understanding of engine components, often backed by a technical diploma or apprenticeship. Familiarity with CNC machines, micrometers, calipers, and specialized crankshaft grinding equipment is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a strong work ethic help machinists maintain exacting tolerances and ensure product quality. These competencies are crucial for producing reliable crankshafts that meet safety and performance standards in automotive and industrial applications.
