Job description

Position Overview

KLEO Community Family Life Center (KLEO) is seeking a qualified and experienced individual to serve as the Solar Craft Instructor. This role leads vocational training initiatives under KLEO's Workforce Development Programs, delivering standardized, hands-on technical instruction to participants entering the Renewable Energy industry, specifically Photovoltaic systems and Solar Energy applications. The primary goal is to equip equity-eligible participants with technical competence supported by the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) to acquire the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Associate Credentials. . The selected individual will uphold the mission and vision of KLEO while supporting excellence and growth across all training initiatives.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities

  • Facilitates instruction in photovoltaic systems, design, operations, construction, and safety best practices.
  • Designs and implements hands-on, lab-oriented solar technology and engineering activities.
  • Provides project-based lessons that interconnect career development with technical knowledge.
  • Enforces strict adherence to OSHA standards and industry safety protocols during all classroom and lab activities.
  • Maintains positive rapport with participants, staff, program partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Uses Learning Management Systems (NCCER Connect) and other instructional technology to track performance.
  • Conducts outdoor lab work and hands-on training to provide technical capacity for renewable energy careers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support the mission and operational needs of the organization.

Qualifications

Education & Licensure

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field preferred.
  • NCCER, NABCEP, and OSHA certifications are highly preferred. Current First Aid/CPR Instructor certification required.


Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a teacher in a vocational/technical program preferred. At least 1 year of experience at a Journey or Technician level in the solar industry required.

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to maintain a firm environment to ensure compliance with professional industry standards.
  • Proficiency in instructional technology and digital databases used for tracking performance data.
  • Comfort with different education techniques and openness to new developments in the field.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team of professionals.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and to address the varying needs of participants in our program from diverse backgrounds.
  • Computer literacy required (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Project, and data management environments).

Physical Demands & Work Environment

  • Must be able to lift/carry equipment up to 50 lbs. and climb ladders for outdoor training.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and maintain manual dexterity for electrical wiring tasks.
  • Approximately 10% of travel is required to support program activities; valid driver's license preferred.
