Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW)

Position Summary

Nava Behavioral Health is seeking a Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) to provide recovery-oriented support services to individuals participating in our behavioral health and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP).

The CPSW uses lived recovery experience, professional boundaries, and evidence-based peer support principles to empower clients to build resilience, develop coping skills, and achieve sustainable recovery.

This position requires strong communication skills, emotional maturity, reliability, and the ability to serve as a positive role model in a structured treatment environment.

Key Responsibilities

Peer Support & Recovery Coaching

  • Provide individual and group peer support services
  • Assist clients in identifying recovery goals and action steps
  • Support development of coping skills and healthy routines
  • Encourage participation in treatment and recovery activities
  • Model healthy boundaries and recovery behaviors

Care Coordination & Advocacy

  • Assist clients with navigating community resources
  • Support referrals to housing, employment, education, and medical services
  • Advocate for client needs within scope of role
  • Assist with transportation coordination when applicable

Group & Program Support

  • Co-facilitate recovery groups as assigned
  • Support IOP instructors and clinical staff in maintaining structured programming
  • Assist with attendance tracking and engagement documentation
  • Monitor client participation and report concerns to clinical team

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete timely, accurate progress notes
  • Maintain compliance with agency, Medicaid, and state documentation standards
  • Protect client confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA
  • Participate in supervision and team meetings

Required Qualifications

  • Current New Mexico Certified Peer Support Worker (CPSW) certification in good standing
  • Must meet all New Mexico peer support credential requirements
  • Minimum of 1 year of sustained personal recovery
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass background check and meet agency compliance requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in behavioral health or substance use treatment settings
  • Experience in group facilitation
  • Familiarity with Medicaid documentation standards
  • CPR/First Aid certification
