What are CPG Demand Planners?

CPG Demand Planners are professionals who forecast consumer demand for products in the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry. They analyze historical sales data, market trends, and inventory levels to ensure the right products are available at the right time and place. Their role helps companies minimize stockouts and overstock situations, optimize inventory, and improve supply chain efficiency. Demand planners often collaborate with sales, marketing, and supply chain teams to develop accurate forecasts and support business goals.

What are some common challenges CPG Demand Planners face when working with cross-functional teams?

CPG Demand Planners often collaborate with sales, marketing, and supply chain teams, which can present challenges such as aligning on forecast assumptions, resolving data discrepancies, and managing changing priorities. Ensuring that everyone has access to accurate, up-to-date information is crucial, as is maintaining open communication to balance inventory levels with demand fluctuations. Successful demand planners develop strong interpersonal skills and adaptability to navigate these complexities and drive consensus across departments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a CPG Demand Planner, and why are they important?

To thrive as a CPG Demand Planner, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in forecasting methods, and a background in supply chain or business, often supported by a relevant bachelor's degree. Job description

Bear Down Brands is a network of consumer brands focused on premium home, health, and personal care products, including Pure Enrichment (home wellness), Bentgo (food storage and lunch ware), and Verilux (light therapy). It is our mission to create elevated wellness essentials that enhance the way you care for yourself and the world around you.

We’re seeking a full-time, experienced Sr. Demand Planner. The primary function of this role would be to ensure Sales forecast accuracy. This is a newly created, high-impact role responsible for owning and evolving our forecasting and demand planning processes, evaluating and implementing planning tools as needed, and partnering cross-functionally to support scalable growth. This role plays a critical part in supporting retail and e-commerce partners by developing accurate forecasts that incorporate seasonality, promotions, new product launches, and customer-specific dynamics. The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, CPG experience, and a proven ability to partner cross-functionally in a fast-paced business managing 500+ SKUs across 20+ key retail partners.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Own end-to-end demand planning across SKUs, customers, and channels
  • Build rolling replenishment forecasts informed by historical sales, POS, seasonality, and promotions; use in-stock performance and customer scorecards to drive improvement.
  • Support key retail partners (Walmart, Target, Costco, Sam’s Club) and e-commerce accounts (Amazon) by strengthening forecast alignment, service levels, and inventory flow.
  • Lead the monthly demand review as part of the Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) / IBP cadence.
  • Collaborate with the Sales team on a regular cadence to collect account inputs and update forecast assumptions (retailer forecasts, promo calendars, assortment and new item changes).
  • Partner with Supply Planning to align demand with capacity, lead times, and supply constraints; surface risks and opportunities early.
  • Partner with Product Development on forecasting new product launches, product variants and packaging updates. Conduct post launch analysis to improve future forecasting assumptions and capacity planning.
  • Improve in-stock performance while reducing excess/obsolete inventory and driving SKU rationalization.
  • Track and report KPIs (forecast accuracy, bias, inventory turns, service levels) and perform root-cause analysis to improve results.
  • Improve planning processes, tools, and data quality; document SOPs and best practices.

Skills and Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, Business, Operations, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in demand planning, forecasting, or supply chain roles.
  • Experience in CPG or consumer products strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting large retail chains and e-commerce customers.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office package (specifically Excel).
  • Experience with demand planning systems preferred (SAP IBP/APO, Oracle, Kinaxis, Anaplan, or similar).
  • Experience working with POS and retailer data; familiarity with Nielsen / IRI / Circana is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive, continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to engage in multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

Benefits:

We support our team with a collaborative and flexible environment, while continuing to embody the entrepreneurial spirit that got us to where we are today. When working for Bear Down Brands, you can expect:

  • Competitive pay with an annual bonus potential
  • Medical, dental and vision
  • 401k with company matching
  • Paid Time Off: Vacation (3 weeks), Sick and Holidays
  • Paid Volunteer Time Off: 2 days annually
  • Half-day Summer Fridays from Memorial to Labor Day
  • Regular company events/initiatives
  • Annual performance & compensation review
  • Growth and development
Salary Range:

$100,000+ DOE

Actual base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and relevant job & industry experience.

Location:

Open to remote but local candidates preferred with a hybrid schedule of two days / week in office at our Fullerton, CA headquarters, reporting directly to the COO.
