Position Description Summary:
The George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs seeks to appoint a tenure-track late assistant or tenured early associate professor of Chinese History, 1911-Present. The specific area of research and subfield are open, but the successful candidate is expected to contribute to the Elliott School's mission of training the next generation of international affairs professionals. The successful candidate will be appointed in the Elliott School of International Affairs and the GWU Department of History beginning as early as Fall 2026.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate and graduate courses about modern China as well as sharing responsibility for teaching the required undergraduate world history course. The successful candidate will also be expected to perform service in the Elliott School and Department of History.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in History or a relevant interdisciplinary field to be considered for the position. Applicants must demonstrate strong potential for achievement in scholarship and in undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Advertised Salary:
Assistant professor salary range: $90,000-$100,000; Associate professor salary range: $100,000-$110,000.
