Purpose and Summary
The Sheboygan County Court Commissioner's Office is looking for a Legal Assistant to provide legal and administrative support in a fast-paced court environment.
In this role, you'll help keep court operations moving by coordinating hearings and calendars, preparing legal documents, supporting mediation and parent education programs, tracking deadlines, and assisting attorneys, mediators, County departments, and members of the public.

Essential Duties
  • Coordinate court schedules and deadlines: Manage the Court Commissioner's calendar, schedule hearings, monitor case activity, and help ensure statutory and court-ordered deadlines are met.
  • Prepare and process court documents: Draft and distribute routine legal documents, hearing notices, correspondence, and incoming filings while maintaining accurate case records.
  • Support mediation and parent education programs: Coordinate referrals, track participation and compliance, process payments and billing, maintain records, and prepare required reports.
  • Assist the public and legal professionals: Respond to phone, email, and in-person inquiries from the public, attorneys, mediators, County departments, and outside agencies while providing appropriate procedural information.
  • Maintain court files and records: Organize electronic and paper case files, review information for accuracy and completeness, and prepare materials for court proceedings.
  • Protect sensitive information: Maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion when handling court, mediation, and family-related information.
  • Keep office operations running smoothly: Coordinate communications, prepare reports, assist with records retention, and use independent judgment to address routine workflow and administrative needs.

Qualifications
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Associate's degree in Legal Studies, Paralegal Studies, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
Experience: Three (3) years of increasingly responsible legal assistant experience. Family law experience is preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
