Property managers overseeing cottages often encounter challenges such as handling seasonal fluctuations in bookings, maintaining properties in remote or rural locations, and ensuring a high standard of guest satisfaction. To address these, managers typically develop strong maintenance schedules, build relationships with local service providers, and implement effective marketing strategies to attract guests during off-peak seasons. Regular communication with owners and guests, along with the use of property management software, can also streamline operations and improve overall efficiency.

They are traditionally associated with the countryside and are known for their charm, simple architecture, and comfortable living spaces. Cottages can be used as primary residences, vacation homes, or rental properties.
