What are some common challenges faced by professionals working in cottage country hospitality roles?

Team members frequently collaborate closely in small, multi-functional teams, which requires strong communication and flexibility. Additionally, the ability to problem-solve and handle unexpected situations—like adverse weather or last-minute guest requests—is crucial for success in these roles.

Familiarity with property management software, booking systems, and maintenance tracking tools is typically required. Excellent customer service, problem-solving abilities, and strong organizational skills make someone excel in this role. These skills are crucial for ensuring guest satisfaction, maintaining property value, and managing day-to-day operations smoothly in a remote or seasonal environment.

Job description

Description:

About Escondido

Escondido Golf & Lake Club is a private golf and lake club in the Texas Hill Country, dedicated to providing an exceptional experience for our Members and guests. The Welcome Cottage is the first and last impression of Escondido — our purpose is to exceed expectations by consistently providing fast, friendly service while monitoring all arrivals and departures and ensuring the security of the property. Providing the best hospitality is our absolute dedication. It's the Escondido Experience.

About the Role

The Welcome Cottage Attendant is the welcoming face of Escondido and the first line of property security. You'll blend warm, gracious hospitality with attentive vigilance — greeting Members and guests, managing gate access, handling keys and packages, and patrolling the property to keep our community safe and beautiful.

What You'll Do

Hospitality & Member Service

• Greet all inbound and outgoing Members and guests in a polite, friendly manner

• Provide travel and destination information upon request

• Communicate the arrival and destination of Members and guests to staff via handheld radio

• Contact Members to inform them of packages ready for pick up

Security & Access Control

• Open the clubhouse and other specified buildings for morning staff arrival; log anything unsecured or out of the norm

• Log all vehicles entering and exiting the property and operate gates in a safe, secure manner

• Call Management or Members to obtain authorization for unannounced guests

• Ensure commercial vehicles use the proper gate

• Patrol the property, checking gates, Club buildings, and homes; log items needing attention and report time-sensitive items per SOP

Keys, Packages & Operations

• Conduct daily inventory of keys and packages

• Issue keys to authorized personnel and log all key usage according to standard

• Accept incoming packages for Members and log all receipt and pick-up information

• Drive passenger vehicles and golf carts

• Maintain the cleanliness of the Welcome Cottage and company vehicles

• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Welcome Cottage Supervisor or Director of Services

Requirements:

What We're Looking For

• A warm, service-first mindset — you actively look for ways to help people and read situations well

• Strong active listening with clear verbal and written communication

• Sound judgment — you evaluate situations calmly and solve problems

• Attention to detail when monitoring cameras, gates, and other security indicators

• Comfort operating equipment and systems, including routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting

• Basic math skills and strong time management

• Comfort with technology: internet, search, and email

• A valid driver's license and ability to safely operate passenger vehicles and golf carts

• Commitment to the Escondido Core Values, Credo, and standard of hospitality
