Langston Assistant Machine Operator

An Assistant Operator for a Langston corrugated box machine (often a corrugator or converting machine like a flexo folder gluer) supports the machine operator in setting up, running, and maintaining the equipment to produce corrugated sheets or boxes. Key responsibilities include preparing the machine for production runs, feeding materials, inspecting finished products for quality, and assisting with troubleshooting. 

Core Responsibilities

  • Setup Assistance: Support the machine operator in setting up the Langston machine for new orders, including mounting printing plates, setting slotting dies, adjusting rails, and adjusting glue systems.
  • Production & Feeding: Feed raw corrugated sheets or paper rolls into the machine, and monitor the stacking of finished products.
  • Quality Inspection: Continuously monitor the product for quality issues, such as loose liners, warp, incorrect size, or print defects.
  • Maintenance & Clean-up: Perform daily and weekly cleaning of the machine, including wiping down ink systems and cleaning glue pots to ensure smooth operations.
  • Troubleshooting & Efficiency: Monitor the machine during operation to minimize downtime, reduce scrap/waste, and assist in clearing jams or performing minor adjustments.
  • Safety Adherence: Strictly follow all safety rules, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures, and maintain a clean work area.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Mechanical Aptitude: Basic ability to work with hand tools and understand machine mechanics.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read a tape measure accurately (down to 1/16") and read production orders/schedules.
