About the Role:
Security Benefit (SB) is seeking a Sr. Event Planner to lead the strategy and execution of high-impact internal and external events for employees, clients, and key stakeholders. This role is ideal for an experienced event professional who thrives on managing complex programs, delivering exceptional experiences, and partnering across the organization to drive engagement, support key business initiatives, and bring our culture to life.

The Sr. Event Planner position reports to the AVP, Executive Administration & Events and will be based out of our home office in Topeka, Kansas. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.

Travel Requirement: <30%

  • Consult with internal stakeholders to assess and define event objectives, scope, and requirements; provide strategic guidance to align events with business goals.
  • Plan and execute large-scale internal and external events, including conferences, meetings, and client-facing programs for key stakeholders.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend event venues; coordinate and conduct site visits and support final selection.
  • Develop and manage event budgets; negotiate contracts and pricing with venues and vendors to ensure cost-effective solutions.
  • Oversee all event logistics including meeting space, accommodations, catering, transportation, audiovisual needs, signage, gifting, and specialized requirements.
  • Deliver a high-quality, seamless attendee experience that reflects organizational standards and supports business objectives.
  • Build event agendas, timelines, and run-of-show documents.
  • Ensure all events comply with applicable legal, safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage registration, attendee communications, and post-event evaluations.
  • Responsible for administrative and operational details including invoicing, reporting, and distribution of event materials.
  • Build and maintain strong vendor relationships and up-to-date knowledge of venues, services, and industry trends.
  • Manage and coordinate ticket distribution for sponsorships (e.g., Dodgers and KU tickets).
  • Support execution of corporate employee engagement initiatives.
  • Partner with Communications, Strategy, and Brand teams to promote events as needed.
  • Stay current on industry trends and best practices to continuously enhance event quality and effectiveness.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

What We’re Looking For:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Event Planning, Communications, or related field preferred.
  • 6–8+ years of progressive experience in event planning, including large-scale or high-visibility events.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple complex events simultaneously.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets.
  • Strong and innovative problem-solving skills.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism, adaptability, and composure in fast-paced, high-visibility event settings.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage competing deadlines effectively.
  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements related to event planning.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during events.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends, based on event schedules.
  • Travel as required.
