Summary of Position Purpose
The Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) is a sales-minded individual looking to grow their business and provide an exceptional customer experience. The MLO initiates the mortgage process for potential clients and utilizes technology to streamline the contact management and origination process. The MLO assists the borrower in determining the proper loan program, completing the loan application, and gathering necessary documentation including pay stubs, tax returns and bank statements, to begin the loan process. The MLO clearly and expeditiously communicates with the title officer, escrow officer, loan processor, real estate agent(s), and/or underwriter throughout the loan process.
The Mortgage Loan Originator's responsibilities include:
  1. Completes mortgage applications for submission to the loan processing and underwriting departments
  2. Establishes detailed marketing/business plan including names of potential and existing loan customers, realtors, builders, developers, etc and frequency of contact
  3. Self-sources business; makes sales calls on potential or existing customers as established in marketing plan to develop new business or retain existing business
  4. Answers customer calls and walk-in customers to discuss various loan products and qualification information
  5. Evaluates loan requests, analyze financial data, and determines qualification of collateral and customer credit history
  6. Structures loans to comply with acceptable lending practices and Federal regulations
  7. Cross-sells other bank products and services to obtain customer's full banking relationship
  8. Maintains contact with customer, communicating progress of loan and obtaining any required documentation
  9. Participates in worthwhile community activities to promote and enhance Core Bank's integrity in the community as well as promote and market loan products. Networks through professional, business and community organizations.
  10. Maintain a comprehensive understanding of various loan programs, including Conventional, FHA, VA, and more.
  11. Regular attendance is required
  12. Other activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee may be assigned.

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED, Bachelors degree preferred
  • Mortgage lending experience with proven mortgage production
  • Experience in developing external business via referral partners in the market including but not limited to realtors, builders, and financial planners
  • Registration with NMLS required
